Anyone else worried that the sliding graffiti will loosen up over time?

Yeah. Why in the world are they adding MOVING PARTS to a pda? Maybe it is really good quality stable stuff, but it's still not a good idea.

So If it's got this sliding graffiti area are there no buttons?? If there are no buttons or less buttons like on the Zire then games will be either rubbish, severly difficult to play, or impossible to use. I spose they'll just bring out a game pad for it though.....?

Well, the buttons are going to be on the part that slides, it is not the actual graffiti area that slides, rather the buttons that slide to reveal the graffiti area. Also, I believe all the os 5 units will have a 5 way controller rather than just the up and down buttons in the middle, exciting.

yah, i think all the other palm os pda manufacturers should add a d-pad like the one on the tungsten.

Yeah, no joke. Do you know how handy that would be when using omniremote? Presentations? Games? Web browsing? Whew. Anyone know if tungsten will have a jog dial? Hope so.

I believe it does actually. If not then something like that, maybe a switch or a slider. But anyway it's mounted in the top left hand side of the unit's casing.

Bought the TT and it's even better than I thought it would be. I had my worries about the sliding piece but it feels pretty solid. The best thing about the TT is that it just 'feels' good in your hand. Great design guys. No jog dial but the D-pad would make that redundant. If most apps adopt the D-pad you won't have to open the graffiti area unless you are inputing info. FYI I bought mine from staples. Go to their site, select the store locater and call them up, you might get lucky and find one in stock.

Palm says that they ran a 100,000 open-close test on the slider so the design should be pretty robust.

What I really want to know is whether lint, dust etc will get into the grooves of the movable portion of the slider?

I read the same report about testing the open-close mechanism for 100,000 times. That report continues... "To put that in practical terms, even if you open and close the device 3 times an hour, 16 hours a day, the slider should provide at least 6 years of faithful service." That is far, far longer than any of my Palms have lasted with me before upgrading to a newer model.

Yeah sorry about the misinfo on the slider. What I was looking at, I guess was the voice-record button. I did hear it from quite a reliable source (PIC) however. But yeah I've seen it close up and it of course doesn't have one.
