I have a 3635 that I upgraded the OS to Pocket PC 2002. I have the PCMCIA expansion sleeve with the extra battery. I recently purchased a D-Link wireless PCMCIA card to use for both my laptop and iPAQ. I cannot get the iPAQ to recognize the the wireless card at all. The power light on the card does not even light up. Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings;

I have a 3635 and use a D-Link DWL-650 I have a Compaq wl100 driver installed to use it on the iPAQ. Compaq WL100 Wireless LAN PC Card Drivers for Microsoft Pocket PC 2000 (http://www.compaq.com/support/files/networking/wlan/WL100CE.html) . You'll need to install the Compaq WL100 Wireless LAN PC Card Drivers for Microsoft Pocket PC 2000 and that should enable you to use the D-Link card. Yes I read that you're running PPC2002 I also am running PPC2002 and it works.

I think you have to specify the WL100 driver when the device prompts for it -- I think you need to specify wl100.dll. Once there is an association between the card and driver, the card should be enabled whenever it is connected to the iPAQ.

It could very well be that I am just dumb, but I still didn't get that to work. It loaded the stuff on the iPAQ, but still never powers up the network card. My D-Link is a 650+, I'm wondering if that makes a difference???

The D-Link 650+ is a 32-bit Cardbus card which is not supported.

I found that the wl100 works equally well in both my ipaq and laptop, but i dumped it out of the ipaq in favor of a netgear ma701....lets the battery last a little longer and seems to be a little sweeter...

I just received the 650+. But as said above I cannot get it to work. I bought it before this post was created so...
Is there anything I could do, I don't know where to even put the wl100.dll driver. When I go onto the link tab on the WL100 settings it says that it is "unable to connect to the wireless netcard. Is it inserted"
Is it the same problem.
Thanks

When you are prompted for the driver file, you need to respond with WL100NDS This is the Compaq driver that should be installed if you downloaded the WL100 driver from Compaq. This file can be viewed by using ActiveSync, Explore, and look in the Ipaq's Windows Directory. The file is actually WL100NDS.DLL but the extension should not be necessary when the IPAQ prompts you for the driver to use. Good Luck.

one more thought ... if the IPAQ no longer prompts you for the driver to use, you may have to do a soft-reset to it and then it will prompt you when it re-boots ... again, best of luck ...

Hello,

I recently got a D-Link DWL-650 (not 650+) card, but I can't get it to work with my ipaq 3955 and PC Card Plus Sleeve.

Originally, I installed the card without installing the drivers, and I read that because of that, I would have to perform a hard reset for the card to be recognized. I performed a hard reset, then installed the compaq wl100 drivers. However, the card is still not recognized. I am never prompted to choose a driver. Am I doing something wrong? I have tried several hard and soft resets, with no success.

I too recently got a D-Link DWL-650 for my 3850, and I cannot get it to work either. Of course I was told by D-Link that it will not work (extent of their help). A support rep at Compaq told me that the wl100 drivers wouldn't work with my 3850/PPC 2002, and I should try the wl110 drivers. Those did not work either, my iPaq still will not even ackknowledge there is a card there. Any help?

Best buy just had a sale on the 660W for $39. I installed that and with some help from this board, got the WLAN running on my 3835 :)
