I have a Palm m515 and an iQue is on the way to me. I wish to have both of them active. Can I synch both to the same computer? The software is different since the 515 uses Palm version 4 something and the iQue version 5. Will I be able to have the same user name for the iQue as I do for the 515? Would love to hear from someone who is doing this successfully.
Also, is there an easy way to get my whole address book from the 515 to the iQue? I know I can beam it one entry at a time but that seems a tad tedious.
Thanks for any help.

It helps that they use different cradles, the old one using a serial port, the iQue a USB port. And, of course, you have to use a different user name on the iQue, there has to be two different identities so the desktop can keep track of who/what/where. :)

Mary What I did was first make a copy of my old backup set to a safe location, so I could use those files, then set up my iQue, do the initial hotsynch which will set up the folder hierchy for the iQue under your user name (My path is C:\Palm\Username). Then I copied the address subdirectory from the old to the new, overwriting, and all of the AddressCities.pdb, AddressStatesDB.pdb, etc. from the old backup subdirectory to the new backup subdirectory. All transferred over with no problem. I did the same for the datebook subdirectory. Didn't bother with the Todo subdirectory, as I didn't have anything in there I wanted to keep.
I don't suggest doing a direct synch of your old info to the new. There are driver files that can cause problems with your iQue. Just selectively transfer your backup files into the new subdirectory and you should be fine.

Thanks, Ann. I will try that.
Now I am wondering about cradles and guess someone with the supposedly universal cradle they use now (515 and lots of others) will have to answer. I thought I had heard that the iQue uses the same cradle connection as the 515. If it does, I assume I should be able to hot synch both from the same cradle as long as I have a different user name for the iQue. Ann can't answer that one as her two cradles are different. Anyone?

M515 and ique should work fine in the same cradle, provided that the mechanical fit is OK. Some times it is sometimes not. You should have different user names.
I agree with Ann thaty it is a good idea to do an extra backup of the backup folder. But after you hotsynched your ique the first time, beam the only three address entries in it (garmin) over to the m515. Then delete the address.dat, datebook.dat and memo.dat files in the ique folder. Then you can simply copy over the corresponding .dat files from the m515. Hotsynh ique with custom set to desktop overwrites handheld for the conduits (address, datebook, memo) that you are interested in. Presto, transplantation finished.
You don't want to load a lot of software from the m515 over to the ique which is OS5.

Mary No, I can't answer that, but I think the cradle will work, I use an M500 series cradle at the office with no problem at all.

Yeah, Jonas, you are so right about not beaming software from one version to another. I learned my lesson from doing that between a Palm III and the 515 and ended up doing a lot of hard resets, etc. I will only install software certified for the new OS. Will have to check my set of solitaire games for compatibility. Also a tetris-like game called Blocks. Those are my standing in line at the store entertainment.
