Hi Folks!!

I have three large pdb files which I think are dictionary files.

'waei' is an abbreviation for Japanese/English and 'eiwa' for English/Japanese.

The file manager in ZLauncher show these as dictionary files and give this information.

waei.pdb 1361k type -- $JEL ( I can guess this means Japanese English Language )

eiwa.pdb 2035 type -- $EJL ( I can guess this means English Japanese Language )

mix.pdb 3394k type --$MXL ( I can guess this means English a mix of both languages )

I have no idea how to read these files and have tried Palm Reader, TomeRaider, Mobile Database and DBViewer.

Does anyone know how I can find out what program created these or what program is needed for reading these?

I would appreciate any help!!

These are databases and unfortunately you'll have to either buy a hex code Palm program to read them on the handheld or you could try associating them on your PC with Notepad and viewing them there, although they may not make any sense.

I use a freeware program called Filez (try Palmgear.com) and it lists the type as well as the creator. Usually, the creator will encode their database files with their name and thus you can then associate the file with the program.

You didn't stipulate which device your running - but I can tell you they are not a core database for a T3.

You can also try deleting them - they will backup automatically - to the "C:\Program Files\Palm\SR\archive" folder and you should be able to restore them if something goes awry. (as long as your running Palm Desktop 4.1 this archive folder should "save" deleted files).

thanks for your reply!

I opened one using WordPad and also Word and could see the word Dokusha at the beginning of the file. I have and use Dokusha but that won't read them.

A search on Google showed a program called Dict.prc that would open these. The pages are in Japanese and my reading of Japanese is not so good. I can speak more than I can read, if you know what I mean! :)

I couldn't find Dict.prc to download so maybe this is a Clie program?

I do use Filez and this shows the creator as 'dict'.

I am using a T3!

I will keep investigating!
