Hi, I'm new to this forum. My name is Charles and I'm 14. I live in BC Canada. This thread would be for tips and questions for/about my UX50.

My Christmas this year is one I can enjoy. Although I have tons of homework before the Christmas break when I can enjoy my Clie, I am still very excited. I got this Clie with my own money and a Scan and Save card at the Futureshop's grand-opening today in BC Canada. I won 500 CND! (BTW there is a trick to those Scan cards just incase any people want to know, all the bar codes have a set of pattern, since there is four prize for the card, I have collected one of each and sure enough, I got all the prize, 10 CND, 50 CND, 100 CND, 500 CND with purchase required)

Anyway, this is my first Palm/handheld with more AI than a MP3 player :p . This is exciting, scary, frustating, and educational. So far I'm just getting to know where to put all the files and how to play back movies and such.

Since this is a very expensive device, I have second thoughts about taking her to school. I also have doubt about taking her to the streets. The keyboard and the screen is not very responsive. This isnt a problem with the Clie because I notice I have same problems with other PDA at my local store or any other that I may have used. Is there a specific way to use the pen and how do you type fast with a small keyboard?

Lastly, where can I download free softwares and games (no, I dont mean wares, I mean FREE).

Two things.

How to play music while doing other task as well?

How do I have more than one program running?

Check Out:

http://www.freewarepalm.com/

I think the best free programs are

Earth & Sun
SFCave
SameGame
Space Trader
Handy Shopper
Cribbage
Open Chess
Hearts
Spades
Touch Tetris

I guess that's it.
Let me know any good ones you find, not necessarily games.

I have found to not worry about breaking or loosing my handheld. Just use it and if something happens, OH well, I get to buy a new and better one. Life is too short to waste time worrying about loosing my stuff.

There's two ways to type, one is to put the unit on the table and try as best as you can to use it like a normal keyboard. the second is to hold it in both hands and type with just your thumbs. the keyboard isn't really built for speed.

to play MP3's in the background, go to Audio Player/preferences and make sure "enable background play" is checked, then you can listen to music whild using another program, unless that program has its own audio.
