My previous mx crashed. I have a new one, and want to re-install my software backed up from the previous machine. I have called the new machine by the same name as the old one: when I click restore, I am told "not backed up".
That is - how, please can I put archived information onto a new machine ?

Thanks

A method I've tried which seems to work reasonably well is to simply use PsiWin to copy (note! not convert) the other machines backup to the new one.

Example:

In my case I have the files located in the following structure:

D:\Psion\Alex S5MX\Backup
D:\Psion\Alex S5MX\Backup\Data (label of my CF, i.e. D:)
D:\Psion\Alex S5MX\Backup\Internal (label of C:)

Then, using Windows Explorer, I simply copy the contents of "...\Internal" to the S5MXs "C:\"

If my CF is empty, I simply copy the contents of "...\Data" to "D:\" on the Psion.

The important thing to remember is not to convert anything.

Hope this might help.

Best regards

Alex

rictar,

When you initially connected the second machine with PsiWin, you would have been given the option to install it as New machine or Existing machine. To restore the backup from the first 5mx to the second 5mx, you should have selected Existing machine, so that it replaces the original 5mx.

Disconnect the 5mx and, in the PC, go to

Start > Programs > PsiWin 2.3 > Machine Manager

and delete the configuration for the second machine. When you connect the 5mx again it should appear as a machine which has not previously been connected. Set it up this time as Existing machine.
