Sorry if this has been asked a thousand times before....but
In the Ique, I want to have maximum maps available all the time. Specifically, I want a good chunk of the east coast and the west coast. My options are 2 256mb disks (one for the east and another for the west) or, just one 512mb and put both on.
My question is - will 2 smaller disks work faster (drawing, re-routing, etc.) then 1 512mb?
Will any difference matter (seconds vs a long delay).
The reason I ask is I have noticed my current 512mb takes a bit longer to redraw maps then I would like....

The only difference that I can think of is that the larger 512 MB card will take longer in searching, just because it is a larger card. But once it has found the map, there shouldn't be any difference in copying the data vs. the 256 MB card.

Personally, I'd go with a single larger card for the convenience factor even if it is a little slower.

If you loaded more maps recently onto your 512 then it make take longer or perhaps you just have the detail section coming in at a higher setting then before.
I've got a 512 Lexar that has 480 on it and it's quicker than the old 256 SanDisk - write/read time or transfer or speed of the card is the kicker here - I don't believe size matters (ha, ha) but the speed of the card does.
The 480 is all of the West coast from just about the Mississippi including the southern portion of Alaska and Hawaii. The Lexar card made a difference over the SanDisk even though the Lexar is faster. The Lexar is actually a Panasonic so - there have been mulitiple post regarding speed of the card. SanDisk's were slower unless they were the newer Ultra II cards.

Thanks for all the responses. I am going to get the Panasonic because a large number of folks on this forum seem sure that is much quicker then the Sandisk.

My Toshiba gives a faster impression than my SanDisk card.

Toshiba - made in Japan, I presume.
My Dan Edge 256 MB card is mady by Toshiba, in Japan.
The rule still is: Get cards that are made in Japan. But you'll only find out by looking at the card or having it in your PDA.

I have two cards. Both are 256 MB.
SanDisk: Made in China.
Toshiba (labelled Viking): Made in Japan.
When panning large map chunks, I notice a longer update time with the SanDisk than the Toshiba card. When just looking at the map when driving, I don't notice any difference. Haven't timed any route calculation.
I use the SanDisk card for backups (when a second or two doesn't matter) and for storing rarely used applications.
I use the Toshiba for normal navigation.
