There are a number of Palm repair shops but I personally recommend Chris Short for all Palm Vx related repairs and tech questions. Give him an email regarding your problem and see what he recommends.

Were you able to repair your power button? Mine has the exact same problem.

My Vx does the same thing. I have to press really hard to get it goin'. I believe it's a poor connection and disassembly (pain in the ass) is required. You and me both need heat guns to soften the glue if we decide we're gonna fix these Palms ourselves. I would like to hear from Dr. Muds' research in this matter before I turn my Vx into Palm Vcrapx

Folks with heat guns and lots of nerve tell me that the opening of the Vx is no big deal. I myself used Chris Short.
THe directions for disassembly can be found on gethightech.com. Also the button parts you will need.

I use my wifes old hair blowdrier and repair palms all the time and it works fine. You just have to get it real hot and sometimes wear a glove on the one hand you are holding the palm with. Then you want to get a razor blade(but be carefull) and while the palm is still hot pry the casing of with the razor blade(piece of cake ;-)) some thimes the glue will be stuck really hard and you have to get it realy realy hot. But I do it all the time aznd it works every time(well It helps that i have a son who helps and i have a big workshop filled with nothing bu palm stuff :-)
Good luck ( i can repair it if you need)

I tried a hairdryer but it dosen't get hot enough. Your wife's hairdryer must be one with realyy high heat settings.

Unlike Heat Guns, Hair Dryers have thermostats that prevent you from drying your brains along with your hair.

I have stopped using my power button on the Palm V because I don't need it anymore.
Let's see, the power button is used to turn the unit and backlight on & off. Here's what I use:
Power on: I use any one of the 4 applications buttons (datebook, phonebook, todo or memo)
Power off: I use a freeware caled Off-it. Off-it creates an icon in the command bar (activated by doing a "/" in the grafitti area) which when selected turns the unit off. You may download off-it at
http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/off-it.shtml
Backlight on/off: You could use Off-it ( off-it adds an extra icon to the command bar) However, I had problems seeing the screen when dark so I assigned the backlight switch to the pen stroke used by default for Graffiti help. You can change that by going to Prefs -> Buttons -> Pen... Select "backlight". In that way, I can turn on the backlight effortlessly with one stroke of the stylus in complete darkness. BTW, Grafitti help is easily available in most text editable applications (/G I think)
There was a lot of discussion about opening the palm V. I have never done it before and I do not think it's worth the risk, especially when attempting to repair/replace a part that can be easily subsituted by other means.

Pardon my post above but the application is called Off, not off-it. You can find it at http://www.freewarepalm.com/utilities/off.shtml
Unfortunately for most Palm V users, you need at least OS 3.5.
