I have suffered a total failure of my D drive today and am having to reinstate it via psiwin - which is rather slow to say the least (4.5 hrs) .
Is it possible to 'pick up' the relevant files from the psiwin backup file and then to ftp them over to the machine, or is it not as straight forward as this?
I am assuming that it is not possible to get psiwin to talk to my ftp server direct.
Many thanks
Simon

There has been much discussion over this in the past. You can backup quickly using any one of the internal Psion backup progs. I use Chris Handleys excellent Fast Backup to backup all my files from C & D to a secondary compact flash installed as E (on my 7book). This can take 1 or 2 mins to back the whole netbook and is a major time saver.
The only problem with this app and all other 3rd party back up tools is they do not backup or restore the Psion's registry. Yes like your PC, the Psion has a secret registry area which only Psiwin is able to read, backup and restore.
So my advice is to use Psiwin to backup your C: Drive once a month or atleast on the installation of new apps (on any drive). If you keep you C drive pretty much empty, as I do, this is a fairly quick and easy job. Use a fast backup type prog for everything else (including D).
Get yourself a CF card reader for you PC which is alot quicker for transferring data.
If you get a total failure, use Psiwin to restore your C: Drive and use the PC Card reader to restore your D.
If you only have a D failure, then all you have to do is copy files to this using the CF card reader directly from your backup store. Psiwin, doesn't need to be used, although the next time you backup D using Psiwin, it will take hours as all the files on D will be seen as new.
I only ever use Psiwin to backup once every 6 months and then only my empty C: drive. I use fastbackup for everything else.
Cheers
