Had to replace my old(2wks) unit when internal atenna failed. Garmin suggested to return it to Pro Bass(local) and get replacement instead of RMA'ing it. Have questions on setting up new unit and sounds like much experience out there. 1) Do I have to delete all the desktop -Palm/Garmin/mapsource so that the map unlock codes match my new cd? 2)I know that I have to update to R2 and patch 1.

You should install mapsource then you can go to tools -> unlock regions and then you can add the new unlock code then you have to reload the maps and then it should work. You can Hotsync the rest of your user data with no problems i think
