I'm typing this message from my new Netbook Pro! I just opened it up and put in the backup batteries and main battery. Turned it on. Stuck in my SprintPCS CF2031 modem. Setup a dial-up connection. Logged in. Went to this Web page. And am now posting.
I like the machine very much so far. :)
After playing around with it I'll give a full review.
Now that I know my CF card works I can get a WiFi card and memory card for expansion.
Great job PsionTeklogix.

P.S. I love the form factor...although a little pointing device would be handy too. And I love Wince since that's what I know...never used EPOC or netbook before.:p :p :p

This is of course great news! Also I think it is great for this forum that there are now a few active NETBOOK PRO WinCE users here.
I am quite familiar with both WinCE and EPOC/Symbian; and though as you know, I do indeed personally prefer Symbian, and I am simply convinced that Psion Teklogix are missing out on a huge market against very limited additional investment; but I am also genuinely interested in these user comments - after all I am also running a company who - unavoidably - will have to undertake projects in the future involving the WinCE version as well.
BTW: With pointing device, do you mean a mouse? Have you tried the USB port? Wouldn't WinCE support a USB mouse? (Of course as a netBook Classic EPOC/Symbian user it sounds quite alien to me that anyone would ask for it, but anyway would be interesting to know).
cheers

Hi Martin,
Yes it works with USB mouse as well as the wireless USB mouse.
In addition, I tested it to work with USB 30GB harddisk that has main power.

Nothing is wrong with the stylus. I was doing a bunch of typing on the note and I'm so much more used to grabing my mouse or on my laptop using my onkeyboard mouse to move around that I'm not used to grabbing the stylus...just a training issue. :)
USB Mouse works fine.

Hi,ktupper. That's exciting! You now have a new toy to play with. But did you check the screen? Is it free of dead pixels?

I don't see any black holes, i.e. dead pixels staring me in the face but is there a little more scientific way to check it?

Sorry for so long before an update guys. Just lots of things at work to wrap-up before year end. Hopefully I'll be able to do a full review soon...anyway if you have questions, ask away.
Right now I have a CF WLAN card in the system working with no problems. I've used my CF Sprint 2031 card regularly without any problems. I've got a 5GB PCMCIA Drive working fine. (None of these had problems at all, but I did need to download latest drives from D-Link for WLAN.) The others were plug and play.
IE works great. RDP works great. Using Laridian Pocket Bible for HP2000 (with some fake DLLs installed to make it work). On-Schedule working well. Pocket MVP to watch movies. WMP working great. Palm Chess working. Pocket Quicken working. :D

This sounds very positive Kevin - thanks for giving us asn update.
I expect there are many here who will look forward to a deeper review in time.
You've also made me feel a tinsy bit jealous.
The 5GB PCMCIA drive - that's handy! And if video is nice and smooth...even better. What are the speaker & headphone socket like - decent sound...?
If you find any sites that give us more info/ resources for the Netbook Pro, please let us have them. Naturally we will only really be interested until the NetbookPro Symbian comes along, we're just curous, you know! ;)
What about MS WORD, EXCEL and POWERPOINT documents? Is there something like Documents to Go to be able to read them in native format? ER5 has nConvert, but it's far from being developed further.
In the mean time, I hope many of us take comfort in the fact that at least the form factor of our beloved Psions lives on, if not the expectation.
Have a nice Christmas!
George:)

Well, assumed at it will of course... ;-}
ER5 has nConvert, but it's far from being developed further.;)
In addition, it is not needed anymore. Nowadays, Symbian Word and Sheet are MS Office XP compatible.
In the mean time, I hope many of us take comfort in the fact that at least the form factor of our beloved Psions lives on, if not the expectation.
And the hope that they one day will realise that they *need* the netBook Pro Symbian as well.
cheers

Ok, now I am connected with the same Wireless Lan Broadband using the NETBOOK PRO and typing away. I do not need to scroll left and right while typing because the 800x600 screen size making it easier and less painful than the 640x480 netBook screen. Overall, the browsing experiance and forum posting is much enhanced. The more than 256 color supported by NETBOOK PRO also allow viewing pictures with more depth and not hurting the eyes.
The speed of the IE and refresh rate is so much better than the Opera experiance on netBook where Opera refresh is slow and having many KERN-EXEC error. Though I have added 32MB RAM on my netBook, I keep running out of memory especially when viewing webpage which is heavy with flash and graphics. The added advantage for using IE is the support with Media Player where I can listen to Web radio and hammer away on the keyboard. Can browse to Windowmedia.com and select the web radio and then browse here to post.
I have tried many times to retype on my netBook just to create the posting last night. Thus, I was getting frustrated on using the netBook and now with the NETBOOK PRO, internet posting has been much more interesting. Anyway browing with keyboard short-cut on Opera still beats the IE, but the speed of getting the webpage display on the screen is one of the NETBOOK PRO's good point over the netBook. That is for now.:D

A newbie to the forum but have been reading threads for a while.
I previously owned a Psion 5mx and was gutted when there was no upgrade available, I've been using palm's ever since but have been waiting for a new version of the Nokia communicator for some time to use a keyboard device. I've also looked at the option of getting one of sonys Vaio tr series sub note books but need instant on capabilities. I stumbled on the launch of the netbook pro by accident and i'm intrigued and convinced i'm going to purchase despite the massive price tag.
I was wondering where a consumer can get the best value in purchasing and what of the older netbook accessories work on the netbook pro.

I have a Sony Vaio TR series machine (the TR1MP) in addition to my netBook Classic. The lack of instant-on IS frustrating, although in hibernation mode it takes only 30 seconds max to be ready to use - I can live with that. Keyboard is not a patch on the netBook though!
Feel free to PM me if you need any further comparisons.

I am probably going to get the netbook pro as my netbook is getting long in the tooth. I would like to find out several things:
1. can I assume that software written for earlier clamshell WINCE/HPC's like the jornada 728, NEC 780/800, etc will run on netbook Pro.
2. will my Psion Gold 56kmodem/10mb NIC work on the Pro
3. will my Colourigraphics VGA card work on the Pro
4. Will Psion-Teklogix support a consumer purchased netbook Pro
5. Anyone with suggestions for getting a netbook Pro in the US (aside from expansys.com)
6. When I sell my netbook with its two spare batteries, IR modem, spare personality module, should I sell it as a bundle or unbundle and sell each separately? ;)
I have an iBook as well as a netbook and I find myself using the netbook for 70% of the work, and use the iBook for formatting papers, presenting on Powerpoint, manipulating images, making movies, watching DVD's, making iPod and iTunes, and managing my digital pictures. With netbook Pro, I suspect the iBook will be mostly for entertainment. Pity the Pro is so expensive.
Docpark,
1. can I assume that software written for earlier clamshell WINCE/HPC's like the jornada 728, NEC 780/800, etc will run on netbook Pro.
YES, I HAVE SEEN IT RUN ON THE SIGMARION III WHICH IS THE SAME OS.
2. will my Psion Gold 56kmodem/10mb NIC work on the Pro
IT SHOULD IF YOU DOWNLOAD DRIVER.
3. will my Colourigraphics VGA card work on the Pro
SAME AS ABOVE
5. Anyone with suggestions for getting a netbook Pro in the US (aside from expansys.com)
LOOKING INTO THIS
6. When I sell my netbook with its two spare batteries, IR modem, spare personality module, should I sell it as a bundle or unbundle and sell each separately?
CAN'T REALLY ANSWER THAT, IT IS WHAT SUIT YOUR NEEDS.

does anybody knows where to find a windows CE driver for the Psion gold 56k modem/10 Mb LAN card? So far I have not been able to find that, without such driver the card won't work on the netbook PRO.
The european alternative for Expansys is www.pulster.de !
