How does the Standard integrated 802.11b wireless technology works with the Axim x3i? Can you be anywhere and be connected to the web?

Thanks

Here's a good place to start:

I didn't realize that you have to be near a hot spot to have your internet work. There aren't any where I live. I thought I would be able to connect anywhere I was with WiFi.

I have a wireless network set up in my home, and I also set one up in my moms home. My Axim can connect to those with no problems. The only problem I have had so far is connecting the Axim to a wireless network that is very locked down in my office. The SSID of the network is not broadcasted and it requires an encryption key. I have the encryption key, and I know the SSID of the network, but for some reason my axim doesn't register any signal strength at all, like it doesn't see the network. Any ideas would be appreciated.

As far as wireless hot spots are concerned, check your local Barnes and Noble, or go to the T-Mobile web site or even the Intel Centrino (sp?) web site to find a listing of wireless Hot spots near you. Alot of hotels now are doing wireless as well.

I had this too; I believe it is due to a software bug.

Were you ever able to get this issue resolved? I have been emailing dell all day today but they keep sending me a link to the users guide. I'm not sure that the people reading my email understand what the problem is.

I just purchased the Axim last week, so I am new to this. Is there an update for the Axim or for the pocket PC software that I need to download?

ha, dell support. i used to be a huge fan of this for my pc's, servers, and laptops.

i spent 5 hours on the phone last night with Dell support (india) with 2 different guys who couldn't spell WEP let alone troubleshoot it, they were TERRIBLE.

the final answer i got from them is that 128 bit WEP is NOT supported, and that 64 bit WEP is the highest you can run. after doing some testing, i can't even get that to run.

has anyone else gotten this to work?

I was able to establish a connection to a wireless network with 40-bit WEP using a key. Here is what I found out: the key value is not ASCII - it is hexadecimal. Therefore, if you have a key with values other than A-F and 0-9, you know you have an ASCII key. Use a converter (search on google) to change the ASCII key to hex.
