Maybe this question was raised, but it was some time ago and this topic is really big, so I ask it.

I have an IQue for a couple of months. I am using it mainly in the car as a GPS and navigational system. It serves me well; and I am really pleased with it. After a while, my wife also got the taste of it, and begun to like it, so I needed another PDA.

After some careful study, I decided to buy a Tungsten T3. I did not want to have two - in essence identical – databases, so I started to install the T3 Palm Desktop over the existing IQue desktop. (Of course, with different usernames for Hot-Syncing.) Everything went well; I successfully installed the programs, the drivers. In the toolbar I have both the Garmin specific tools (MapInstall, etc.) both the T3 specific tools (VoiceMemo, etc.)

After finishing with the installation, I replaced the T3 with the IQue in the cradle. (By the way, I think the Garmin cradle is much better, so I did not unpack the Palm one.)
Pushing the Hot-Sync button the WinXP reported that new device was found, and asked for the drivers. Apparently, the Garmin device driver was overwritten, and to put the IQue CD back to the CD reader did not help either. After some fuss, I tried to install the drivers manually for the IQue, and found a Palm driver among the existing XP drivers. The XP complained that it was not a suitable driver, and most probably would not work, but I went along.
The IQue accepted the new device drivers, it Hot-Syncs and generally happy with it, but I am not totally convinced. I searched the IQue disk but was not able to find device drivers – they must be hidden somewhere within the installation software.

I would like to have the experience/advice of people in similar situation. Is the installation of T3 desktop right, or should I have two Palm desktops in separate subdirectories?

Thanks in advance,

SoSa

I know there are others that have both the iQue and the T3 so they should be able to give a more precise answer. Until then my little thoughts. Is it shure that you need different desktops? I can synch my Palm Tungsten T using the ique Palm Desktop. That of course leaves the question how the T3 specific conduits are to be introduced into the hotsync application, which really is a separate application from the desktop. There have been times when hotsync has been updated separately from the desktop.

Right now I am using one desktop seemingly integrating both the t3 specific and IQue specific applications and conduits.

It looks as if working well, but by installing the t3 desktop over the IQue desktop I lost the IQue device driver, and replaced it with the palm driver. It looks OK, but I am afraid there are some hidden caveats.

Well you could test what happens if you install software that also affects the desktop application. I immediately come to think of two. First Splash photo second the Garmin import waypoints application that has been added to the Garmin upload page.

Another interesting one would be Fugawi that creates its own counduit in hotsync

If you have more than one Palm device hotsyncing onto one PC you'll have one Palm Desktop only. The users will be listed from which you can choose. I think that if you have two log ins, one for you and one for your wife onto XP then you may have only your Palm device shown on your login. I've never tried that.

Having multiple Plam devices on one PC is not a problem. It is best to load each devices desktop software ontop of the the older one. The drivers then seem to be added ontop of each other. On my deskyop PC I have a Palm III, a clie T625 both with Palm OS 4, and Clie SJ25 Palm OS 5 all running together. The mistake comes in trying to move a backup folder from another directory where you have saved it, to the current directory. It seems best to load the software and then hotsync so the data goes from device to PC into the right place with the right format. I have the iQUe syncing with my Tablet PC for unimportant reasons.

From you post it seems that you now have both the iQue and your T3 running onto one desktop. That is how it should be.
