Hi - recently bought an IPAQ 3870, maybe I'm missing something here but I cannot see where I can configure a dialup username and password.

I can configure email settings, smtp settings, dns settings, wins everything but..

I connect to my Nokia phone via IRda modem which dials the appopriate number but then fails to connect as expected??

I keep going over this and I just can't see where to put in a username and password alongside the number for my iSP.

can anyone help please?

Thanks in advance!

Matt

Compaq tech support will lead you step by step through it. But you need to click start settings, connections tab, there are 3 options top options is connections to the internet, then clicked on advanced setting under that option and enter in phone number and such. then at the bottom of the screen choses dialing patterns, put a g in all 3 boxes. click ok then reset the ipaq by inserting the stylus in the hole in the bottom of the ipag on the right, let it restart, no data is lost, then click on start setting connections and chose that connection and your in business

Just a note about dialing through your phone. I have AT&T and they do not allow dial-access to an ISP. They only allow you to access the AT&T network via their iPAQ software. If you dont have AT&T, you still may want to call your cell phone carrier to ask them if they allow this type of traffic.

Thanks to the respondents for the advice...Seems it was just the soft reset part that was left out of the manual...typical.

I now on to more complex things... activesync over bluetooth which is going fine. I have a tdk bluetooth card which I'm using both as a active sync provider and network access point. Though active sync works fine and works well for client apps that run over the active sync connection trying to access network resources "i.e. via the network access point service running on the tdk card" doesn't appear to work, though I can use the internet no problem (so ip traffic is getting though ok!- weird).

I've got little help from Compaq on this and some helpful advice from TDKsystems, though it is difficult unless they have the same setup in front of them - which they didn't.

I working on the basis that the only way this is going to work properly is with a dedicated bluetooth lan access point. Understanding the logistics of all of this though, I don't see why that should be the case, but there you go. If anyone has this working properly then I would be very interested.

Thanks all,
Matt
