I am curious how many have bought extra things for the 3600 because they read about it here?

For me it has been 3 extra base mounts for the Nav kit, a Gilsson antenna, an antenna mount, an antenna adapter, an extra memory card, the auto Nav kit, and still thinking about a backup power source.

Cruising here may be hazardous to your billfold :)

Thankfully no. I have enough expensive toys and hobbies without having to buy more things for my iQue :D

Actually, I will be buying a Panasonic SD card (to replace my POS SanDisk card) this week as a result of reading here, so I suppose the answer is yes.

I still haven't decided on a mounting system for my car but I'm sure the opinions here will sway my final decision too.

Hrmmm, now that I think about it some more, I'll be ordering an EB slipper case for it too based on recommendations I received here.

Damn, this place is a money pit :D

Based on this forum, I have purchased a 256 Ultra SD card, as well as a SanDisk card reader. WAY faster for reading maps into the card. I also bought a portable USB hub so that I could do all this on the road if need be - but this is perhaps not fair.

I have spent money on things discussed here, a Gillson antenna, a Panasonic SD card, screen protector, etc. I am happy to know that I'm buying things based upon the experience of others.
As I have said many times in this forum, "The forum should be part of the IQUE experience!
I just wish there were forums for some of the other things I've bought.

I have spent way more than I want to list! :p I've installed new programs, bought two cases, two antennas (two trucks to outfit!), the car kit, bases, clips, woooo-hoooo! But it's been fun money to spend.

To date I have purchaced:
Gilsson Antenna
Five 256Meg SanDisk SD Cards
Veo SD Digital Camera (That won't work with the iQue: Sold it to a co-worker with a m515)
Garmin iQue car cradle
Belkin USB Charger/Sync Cable w/ 12v car adapter

I just found this forum yesterday (12-15-03) and from what I've read, it looks like I made the right choice with the antenna! Even before I read anything on the site, I knew that it was the best.

I've been reading that people don't like the SanDisks? I've had no problems until the other day... But I blame that on the big static ZAP! that happened when I inserted the card.

The Veo? Eh, it was worth a try. (I yelled at Garmin for not making the SD port SDIO)

The car cradle is nice, but I think I'm going to modify just the cradle part to fit a suction cup RAM mount.

I bought the Belkin USB cable fo a trip to Arizona...My Garmin car cradle wasn't shipping in time and it was a $20 fix. It charges the iQue fine, but I've only gotten it to sync ONCE with that cable. (The receipt from Staples is gone...oh well)

But to be fair because of this board [I did study it before I made my purchase] i ordered the iQue, Nav kit, and 256 SD Ultra II all together, which without this board I would have only gotten the Q.

To be honest, I decided to buy the iQue itself based on articles posted to this forum. Apart from this (and not counting items that I would have bought anyway: nav kit, two 256 MB cards, some books on PalmOS programming) I got: leather Covertec case, two Gilsson antennas (the second one with the metal suction pad), Seidio charger, screen protectors. That's it, so far ;)

Nate,

Have couple questions regarding iRock as consider to buy it (yes, based on what I read here!)...
Do you find it a good thing? What about sound quality, any significant noise?
What is the length of the wire from iRock to headphone jack?

Thank you,
Andrey

Andrey-
I have mixed feelings about it...I originally found it here on the old message board. I went to iRock's site, and found that it had great potential. I then put my order in, and literally about 30 seconds after, someone posted up that i could get it from radio shack for the price i paid w/o shipping. I called my radioshack and sure enough they had it. I tried calling irock, but they were closed...to make a long story short, i paid for the shipping...a little OT, but dont make the mistake i made, you can get it at mostly any electronics/ target like store. Heres my likes/dislikes:

Likes:
-Its universial (can plug into anything, old or in the future via any headphone jack)
-The sound quality is unbelievable. (to hear elizabeth say turn right on my cars radio made me think she was there...not really, but the sound was amazing)
-I can play mp3s, games, movies, and navigation on any radio

Dislikes:
-Its fairly big (about the size of your palm...maybe smaller, but thick)
-Its range isnt that good (doesnt work from across a normal highschool classroom)
-I have an auto nav kit already

To sum up my commentary, I feel that the iRock is a pretty good product. I thought at some point it would come in handy, b/c headphone jacks arent going to disapear anytime soon, and the fact that i can listen to mp3s on any radio, at perfect quality is nice, but honestly, i have only NEEDED it once, and i dont use it for navigation b/c i use the auto nav kit. My reccommendation: if you have a use for it other than navigation, get it, but get it at radio shack or something, not from them directly, but if you wanted it for navigation (in car), get the garmin auto nav kit.

To answer your questions:
Do you find it a good thing? (see above)
What about sound quality, any significant noise? (beautiful, no bad noise upclose)
What is the length of the wire from iRock to headphone jack? (very short. When plugged in, the iRock hangs down about halfway down the ique and wont touch the ground if the iQue was standing.)

-nate

PS. If you have the auto nav kit, you can put the ique in it, plug in the iRock, tune your radio to 88.x, and get guidance, and mp3s at great sound quality, while the cradle is charging, but not using crappy speaker.

PPS. I would take pictures/movies/sound if my ique wasnt on RMA, if you wanna hold off, i can once i get her back. just email me at: nparker13@aol.com if you have any more questions or want a sound byte (or post on board, ill see either)

Nate,

Thanks for all details you provided!
I think I'll get it.
The sound quality was main my concern.
Short wire is a bit disappointing, but I think I can find the decent xtender.
My unit is on RMA too (frequent static discharges resulted in dead internal antenna), as soon as I get it back I think I'll buy iRock.

Thanks again,
Andrey

My list of stuff purchased after reading about them here are:

1) 2 Gilsson antennas (two cars to outfit)

2) Boxwave screen protector (3 pack) I had some leftover Handspring Visor screens that I cut down and slapped on the iQue as a temp solution until I found the better one... which turned out to be the Boxwave films. And, I sent one to my brother who has the Palm T3.

3) 2 extra autonav bases

4) Car mounting brackets from Pro.fit and Proclip

5) External battery pack module (4-AA's) w/iQue sync plug

My 512mb Sandisc card is working fine. My brother advised me not to get a Sandisc card........... after I already ordered it  But I have not noticed any strange glitches with it, so I'm fine with it.
