I am upgrading from Palm Vx, which I use with Outlook to a Tung. E. I have completely removed the old software and reinstalled the new desktop as advised but still have the same problem. Desktop and Quick Install just aren't installing. Docs to go is fine, as are all the functions I Hotsync with outlook, but I'm unable to Hotsync any photos or download any 3rd party software that wasn't already on my Vx. This is probably a basic problem but I'm getting nowhere fast. Any suggestions?

I installed the new desktop software for the T|E (4.1.2) over the older version, 4.1 (which I used for my Vx) and it works fine with the T|E So if you still have your Vx available, I'd try the following.
1. Download the 4.1 Desktop version from the Palm Support site and synch your data to it from your Vx. It will now have all your PIM data.
2. On your C drive, go to the Backup folder for the Palm (Program Files/Palm/[your user name] and rename it OldBackup. (I would also make a copy of it and move the copy to another location on your computer, like the Desktop of My Docs, for extra security). This is done to ensure that third-party software that may not be compatible with the Tungsten's OS5 won't be synched to the handheld and possibly mess up its operation.
3. Install the Desktop 4.1.2 version (from the T|E installation disc) over the existing 4.1.Desktop software. (This will give you the T|E's new PIM features - Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Palm Photos). Then go to the Palm Support web site and download the special conduit for synching to Outlook, found on the Tungsten E page. (I don't use Outlook, so I can't say any more about this operation.)
3. Using the same user name as the Vx, do a hotsynch. It will put your existing PIM data on the Tungsten but not the third-party software.
4. Now you can go to the OldBackup folder and, one by one, copy the third-party software into the Tungsten's Backup folder and synch it to the handheld. Check after each synch to see whether the latest transferred program interferes with the T|E's operation, and if it does, delete it from both the handheld and the Backup folder on the C drive. Do not copy any hacks into the T|E's Backup folder, as hacks don't work on OS5.
After doing this, if you want to keep the Vx going, and continue synching to it as well, you will have to create a new user name for it. But I suggest we cross that bridge if and when we come to it.
Hope this is sufficiently clear.
