My 5MX, which I use all the time for my work, was damaged this autumn, so I sent it off to Servicelogistics for repair. As the machine was out of warrenty I sent a cheque for the £105 quoted and expected to see my beloved 5MX back in a couple of weeks, as promised on the Psion web site. They cashed my cheque quickly enough but after a month still haven't fixed the 5MX! They don't give an email address for repairs, just a phone line, where you have to wait for ages before someone who is no help at all finally answers. After contacting a very helpful person at info@psion, I managed to get the email address of the manager of the repair dept. one Phillip Bond. apart from denying that they had had my cash, he never answers his email. I am now despairing of seeing my computer again and thinking of buying a replacement. any suggestions as to what I should do next? If I have to buy another computer, what should I get instead of the 5MX? (Which I love but can't face dealing with these people again) I want the qwerty keyboard, I use the machine for making notes, then typing up reports while travelling.

How very unfortunate that you didn't send it to Pinnock Organiser Services (http://www.posltd.com) in London whose quite superb service is frequently extolled in all of the Psion discussion groups. You can literally send it to them on Monday and get the repaired machine back on Wednesday! P.O.S. also sell refurbished Psions if you wanted to consider that option and I'm sure they really would be "as-good-as-new".
Psion's own repair service has now been farmed out to France and reports indicate that it is an unmitigated disaster.

There's really no alternative at this point in time, particularly if a good keyboard is vital to you. I endorse Mike's comments with regard to Pinnock, and as far as we know they are well stocked with spares and plan to continue providing service and repairs, so I'd recommend sticking with 5mx! :)

Thanks for the info, Mike & Julie, If only I'd known sooner!
I'll visit the POS site to look for a replacement.

I recently bought an Ericsson MC218 for £100 from eBay. I was lucky because it was a well cared-for machine.
I started another thread about bargains people have bought and you might get some hints there as well.
www.expansys.co.uk seem to have taken over the remnants of the Psionstore and sell the (still new) - but stock running out) 5MXPro.
I would certainly recommend POSltd. I have had great service from them in the past and their turn-around is great. I expect as time goes on, many of us will be relying on them for new screen cables, screens and cases.
The debate as to what replaces a Psion is on-going elsewhere on this forum. Many people (like me) have moved to a (now cheaper) netbook or (like me) a second-hand 5MX or MC218.
