Just got my IQUE and trying to load mapsource, but I keep getting an error "Please Install this CD from the Setup CD" Can anyone help? I have e-mailed Garmin, but there response says 5-7 working days and the phoine wait is anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. My Mapsource CD says v.5.02. Will downlaoding the v. 5.4 help?

Thanks,
Sam

To install detailed maps you have to start from the Set up CD.

Click on Install Software

Then click on Install detailed maps.

It will then guide you through the installation of the City Select software.

I can't seem to able to initially install mapsource, use the setup cd, go to install, installed palm desktop, then go to install detail map, told me to put in disk 1, then nothing, after awhile, it tells me to put back to setup cd. No region selection or what not. And detail map is still not install. Went download mapsource 5.4 from web, tried to install it, told that I need to install mapsource first. Oh well, will try to call garmin in the morning but hope that ya'll can help me out tonight. Would the fact that I have palm desktop before using palm IIIc be a problem?

I would try the installation over again. Completely remove Palm Desktop for Garmin from the control panel and Mapsource - City Select if it is there. Reboot and then try the installation over again. I ran into similar problems when Mapsource seemingly became corrupted and tried this and it worked. You can expect an error installing detailed maps when it asks you to insert Disc 2 and then it will tell you that it cannot find Disc 1 and ask you to reinsert it. Just follow what the instructions say and the error will work itself out. Once detailed maps is installed you should be able to install Mapsource 5.4.

NOPE! Cannot do. I have been trying for two days to find Map Source and get it up and running. Where can I source Map Source "original" NOT the 5.4 update that will NOT run without having the "original" Map source installed first.

It (5.4) whines about a missing file

It (5.4) whines about a missing file|Garry| You can't find the original Mapsource posted on the web site. That's something you get if you buy a separate map product, like the Metroguide or whatever.
But for everyone else, it seems to work to first install the iQue desktop, and then, in conjunction with that, the City Select maps that were bundled with the iQue.
Once that's completed, you should be considered to already have a Mapsource installation (kind of), which would allow you to install the 5.4 update you've got from Garmin's site.

Which file is missing? If nothing else works, some of us perhaps can mail it to you?

You really get around on this forum! Thanks re the missing file but I had to over write the upgrade by re installing the original (map source) from the IQue setup disk. The Palm desktop was stuffed. It just kept giving an error message and closed. I am sure it was an anti piracy thing as it prompted me to call or e-mail Garmin (which I did). I also requested clarification about the abilty to transfer data etc. via Map Source.

I am hoping that Garmin will provide me with the version of Map Source that you have.

|Garry| But the point is, Garry, that you shouldn't have to do that! I had no problem at all downloading Mapsource 5.4 and installing it once I had the Garmin desktop installed. What OS are you using? You already owned Mapsource 5.2?

Ann is right, in spite of being up and out of bed too early again! Watch your nose before you stick it out for your morning walk. I've seen that it's still "chilly" in Hanover. You probably need more than a t-shirt and running tights, I think!!! :D

Hard, colder than normal winter around here, but I love it :)

Since I'm into orienteering, I have competition shoes with the same kind of metallic studs in them, as there are in winter tires for cars. Something an American may know nothing about, of course...

To get somewhat into, if not topic so at least forum, I've calibrated orienteering maps for use with PathAWay in the iQue. Worked fine, but now the antenna is "kaputt" (broken), so it's a little more complicated.

I though about writing something more, but it just got totally off topic, so I'll PM you instead, Ann.

back to my problem with the mapsource, I was able to installed on my desktop without any problem. Talked to support today, long wait but otherwise quite competent. They think that it's my cd drive that's balky and I think that they are right. They are going to send me a new set of cd anyway. In the mean time, I think I will try to install it across a network from another computer.

See this post (http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=133163&highlight=annoyances#post133163) and also go to the link in the post.

If it's the same cab file problem, you don't need to install from another computer. It is enough to do it over your own network neighbourhod.

The original problem could be with the CD rom drive but this worked anyhow for me. Had this on one wihn2000 pc, others I've tried were OK.
