Hi,
I live in the UK and have just purchased a Compaq ipaq H3845, from the US.
I have tried to find out information regarding this model on the internet, but are not getting much luck.
Is the a US model?
Was it a limited edition?
Any help and specs on this model would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in advance

I have the same unit and lots of info for you:

That is an original, -Compaq- iPAQ made before the HP merger.

Compaq used the last 2 digits of their model numbers to denote either packaging or where the units were sold. Any 38XX unit is the same internally as the other.

Was yours new out of a package? If so you're running Pocket PC 2002, also known as Windows CE 3.0.

You might check:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/products/pocketpc/about/2002/default.mspx

For the MS tutorial on PPC 2002.

For the Manual on the 3800 series see:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DocumentIndex.jsp?locale=en_US&contentType=SupportManual&prodTypeId=215348&prodSeriesId=96481

Should you ever need a repair I recommend:

www.pocketpctechs.com but they're in California, U.S., I think.

Best of luck with the unit.

THanks!!!!
How reliable are these Ipaq's?
Is there anything I need to be aware of?
What is the advantage of upgrading to pocket 2003?

thanks

They're pretty reliable minus the soft resets and freezes.

Be aware that they're running on Windows.

Less bugs and freezes, more optimized for Xscale. Think of it almost as a Service Pack.

My iPAQ 3845 has -never- hard reset since my first -day- with the unit and I've tried at least a hundred add-on apps over the past 2 years.

The cranky app that made it crash came on the CD in the box (Dashboard).

Mine has been 100% reliable.

In looking at it I will guess the $549.00-$649.00 range. I had a 3650 and it was $499.99.

eBay showes them worth about $120.00 used. If it is a refurb it should come with a warranty?

$120!!!!!,
I paid $300 with 6month warranty.
That sounds dear....

I can't see any h3845 on bay for that price at present.

I paid $400 U.S. two years ago.

As new models are introduced, older models usually drop in price.

I saw the 3845 as low as $275 with rebates near the end of its commercial availablity

Do they all come with only 1yr warranty from Compaq?
Also in the UK we have 240ac, will the adaptor switch automatically?

cheers guys

A really good place to look for refurbished ipaq in the US is from HP itself, there's refurbished 3955 with 1 year warranty for $279.99 right now;

Ended just a few days ago.

I see items listed at 150.00 getting no bids.

Is it possible to put windows software on these? More specifically, I wanted to know if i could put the software play online poker. If ANYONE has any idea how to, if possible, put it on it would be greatly appreciated. Even if you know you cant do it, let me know, so i can stop looking for ways. Is there like a windows emulator that i can use to make it work?
Thanks.

No, you cannot run windows' programs on pocketpc.
