When trying to copy and convert data files from the Revo to my PC I get a message saying can't convert access denied. Help apprecisted. MikeMcC 10-12-2002, 01:47 PM Is the file perhaps 'open' in the Psion while you are attempting to copy/convert it? Where are you getting the 'Access denied' message - in a PC dialog box? BRIAN HOGAN 10-12-2002, 01:57 PM HELLO MIKE THANKS FOR TAKING THE TROUBLE. NO, THE DATA FILES ARE CLOSED ON THE PSION. THE DIALOGUE BOX ON THE PC SAYS: THERE WAS A PROBLEM COVERTING THE FILE"......." YOU ARE DENIED ACCESS. SHORTLY AFTER I CLOSE THIS BOX I RECEIVE ANOTHER MESSAGE ---- EXPLDG HAS CAUSED AN ERROR IN KERNEL 32.DLL ANY IDEAS??? MikeMcC 10-12-2002, 02:50 PM ANY IDEAS??? Not really. I know that for some reason conversion of Data files can be problematical. Try copying the file from the Psion to PC, without converting, and then use PsiWin's 'Convert Files' application and see if that helps - Start > Programs > PsiWin 2.3 > Convert Files BRIAN HOGAN 10-12-2002, 02:51 PM ALREADY TRIED THAT ------ SAME RESULT MikeMcC 10-12-2002, 02:58 PM OK, you may have to save the Data file in the Psion as a delimited text file and open that in Access or Excel instead. .....unless anyone else has a solution? There just seem to be some Data files that PsiWin doesn't like. Presumably you do have the correct version of PsiWin for your operating system - in particular, Windows 2000 and XP require PsiWin 2.3.3 brianh 10-12-2002, 09:00 PM Is the "read-only" tab checked for the data file? (On the Psion under File>Properties in the main menu) Hope this helps. BRIAN HOGAN 10-13-2002, 07:52 AM THANKS BRIAN. THE DATA FILES ARE NOT SET TO READ ONLY. MY PSIWIN IS VERSION 2.3 MY PC IS WINDOWS 2000 IS THERE AN UPDATED VERSION OF PSIWIN? THANKS MikeMcC 10-13-2002, 08:18 AM MY PC IS WINDOWS 2000 IS THERE AN UPDATED VERSION OF PSIWIN? Can I ask that you don't post in upper case letters as this is considered the online equivalent of "shouting" and is harder to read? Thanks. With Windows 2000, you should be using PsiWin 2.3.3 which can be downloaded from www.psion.com/MyPsion/Login.asp if you don't already have this latest version. brianh 10-13-2002, 01:20 PM Brian, The exporting of the files as a csv or tab delimited file sounds like the best idea to me... You might try opening the files one at a time and while open, select them in the "Open Files/Programs" dialog. From there, press SHIFT+FN+CTRL+K. This will "kill" the program instead of simply closing it. All unsaved changes will be lost so be sure to save it before doing this. This should stop any processes that the file might be trying to execute - in case that is tying up the convert process by stating that the file is still busy. Another workaround might by to download and install Kevin Millican's PsiDat program - you can find it under the Series 5 software section (databases) on this site. From there, you can import your data file into a file and export them into various file formats including HTML, XML, and several popular database formats. The version on this site has been available for a while and an update can be found on his home page (follow this link to it while downloading). By the way - it is FREEWARE! Hope this helps. Keep us posted. BRIAN HOGAN 10-13-2002, 06:01 PM THANKS FOR THE HELP. I'LL TRY THE DOWNLOAD FIRST. THEN BRIAN H'S OPTIONS. SORRY FOR THE UPPERCASE. I ONLY HAVE ONE ARM DUE TO AN UNFORTUNATE ENCOUNTER WITH A CROCODILE WHEN VISITING AFRICA SOME TIME AGO. I FIND IT EASIER TO PRESS THE CAPS KEY AND LEAVE IT. I DIDN'T INTEND TO "SHOUT" REGARDS MikeMcC 10-13-2002, 06:24 PM SORRY FOR THE UPPERCASE. I ONLY HAVE ONE ARM.... OK, no problem.
