Please remove the accu cell and backup batteries. Wait 1 Minute. Insert the accu cell again while holding CTRL-D and ESC. The netbook PRO boots up again but will stop with a boot menu:

1. run main OS
2. clean start main OS
3. begin YMODEM load
4. show configuration
5.-8. Audio/display/touch/RAM tests
9. erase flash file system

Its a interesting starting point to dream about a different OS (Linux?) to load on the fantastic piece of hardware, the new netbook PRO is.

This is for the techie and support.
As for the normal user, this will cause data loss for choosing the wrong options and unnecessary support call.

I agree that it could be a quick and easy way of killing your machine...

But at the same time, it opens up a world of possibilities!

Including... OS upgrades WITHOUT the requirement of a ROM upgrade and of course... the possibility of alternate operating systems!

If only Psion would take their heads out of the sand and sell this device to the general consumer market! I've been looking for a replacement device for my Jornada 820 and this is it... if it were only a little bit cheaper. :-(

Regards.

There are too less people out there willing to spend c.1500 EUR for this device. - The few left hardcaore Psionists can order in my shop :-)

BTW, the boot-options does NOT damage anything.
I've tested it by myself. The machine is going to be hard-resetted, thats all.

Interesting finding Christoph! I agree with daredevil, however, not something to be recommended to an inexperienced user who may not understand the implications of what they are doing.

I'm quite aware of the Zupera Smartbook C7. It is nice too.

However, I'm looking for a replacement for my Jornada 820. The battery life the Zupera isn't up to scratch and it uses an OLD processor (SA-1100 @ 206 MHz -- which is the same used in the Jornada 720). Furthermore, I can't be sure, but I don't think that the keyboard is of the size where you can touchtype.

BTW, if you search the net, you can find better prices for the Zupera Smartbook than on the Expansys site. :)

Regards.
