My wife got me one for Christmas (yay for me!) However, I installed the patches available at Garmin.com and now it just shows a half "Palm Powered" screen and the backlight switches on and off and I can't turn the damn thing off!! Anyone know anything about these? I've tried to reset it to no avail.....plz help a noooooob! I've tried to do a hard reset yet it just continues to do the same thing, it won't get past the "Palm Powered" screen

You came to the right place :) (I found Planetkaos over on the PIC Forums). After you did your hard reset, what happened? By now your iQue is no doubt out of battery. You need to make sure the battery is fully charged before you do anything else. Don't turn it on, do nothing until it has sat in the charger for a good three hours or so (I say three, because I don't think two is long enough).

Then try doing the master clear. It's like a hard reset, but press the jog wheel instead of the power button.

When would be worthwhile to do a master clear?

I'm actually not sure if it does anything different than a hard reset, except that you don't have to/aren't given the opportunity to answer "yes" or "no" to if you want to loose everything inside. It just goes.

Could perhaps come in handy in this case, when it seems to go into orbit before he has a chance to take any kind of action. But really, I think something has gone wrong with the nonvol memory. There is a key sequence that's supposed to clear that, but on my unit, nothing has ever happened. Don't know if that's related to my firmware version or if it's my dexterity that lacks...

What goes? All in RAM?

This is the button sequence - from the FAQ Ha!

Turn the unit on
Hold down the ESC and Date Book
Press and release the Reset button
Keep hold of the ESC and Date Book for about 10 seconds
Release all buttons

I doubt that it will work during the present looping.

The reset you describe by pushing and holding the thumb wheel on side is (what Garmin told me) will clear out the memory for the satalite aquitision. They wanted me to do that and then try to aquire satalites for up to 1 hour to see if that would fix my problem but had to send it in. I don't know if they call it a master reset or not but it is mainly for the GPS side of the unit.

I have tried all those, they all make the screen shut off in different ways, yet when it comes back on it just keeps doing the same thing :( I let it charge for the better part of 8 hours too. I can't even shut it off, it just keeps flashing, any other ideas?

Well, I've finally managed to get through to Garmin Tech Support, they've RMA'd the unit, hopefully get it back A.S.A.P. What are the usual turn around times for their RMA's?

My beloved Ique had the same problem--all of a sudden it has gone mad. the screen is flashing, cant go past the half screen Palm powered... When I hit the reset button, it was asking me if I would like to erase all data. Of course I don't. So I kept hit "any other button" as it told me. Nothing happened. The screen keep flashing, the question popped up. It is definitely in a loop that it can't get out itself. I was ready to call Garmin for a RMA but it is Sunday and they are not working. After 8 hours I gave up, I chose "erase all data" then everything was back to normal. It is working again! It is just my data is all gone and I didn't do a sync before it is gone.

I have to say that the problem is solved, but in a hardway. Can anybody tell me what caused this problem??? I know it is a very delicate device and I was extremely careful with it. I just can't imagine what could possible trigered this.

Thanks!! All Ique lovers. I guess I am still an Ique lover but I had to say this baby is not a solid product.

You shouldn't have to baby it as much as we do as a friend has a Garmin GPS and he hasn't had a problem with it at all and he doesn't baby it at all. We do take better care of them as it is a PDA also but the static problem has got to be solved for this to work as that is what happens in winter and cooler weather. It is hard to get away from static and you shouldn't have to wear a wrist band for static to use it.
