I am a new user of Psion 5mx (former Palm user). I spent unbelievable time by syncronising with Outlook 2000 (PsiWin 2.3.3.). After reading all suggestions in this forum I must say it does not work at all.

The first sync is ok but second is not. The message says:

The sync did not finish normally. There may be errors. (No log message is available).

Could someone help?

Thanks
Kaja

There is a synchronization upgrade:

'This upgrade improves synchronization between your PC and the Contacts application on the Series 5/5mx. It eliminates the appearance of duplicate entries that occasionally appeared on some machines.'

This is available on the Psion website: http://www.psion.com/mypsion/downloads.asp?product=Series+5mx&category=Upgrade&os=&language=&Submit=Search&Keywords=
You will have to register to get to the download page so start at: http://www.psion.com/mypsion/

David ,

Thanks for the e-mail.

I further narrowed my problem, it probably happens only when synchronising Tasks (to do lists). May Categories in Outlook cause problems?

The sync window says: Psion reading to-dos ... with subsquent error message "The sync did not finish normally."

I did almost everything, hard reset, reinstalling, using registry cleaner etc.

It is possible, though I have not had direct experience with this. I have noticed some problems when you edit items on Outlook and then sync them with Agenda - mainly as the duplicate entry problem - same happens with e-mail sync on the odd occation.

Kaja,

Start with a clean to-do section, either in Agenda or Outlook, depending on what's the most current. Delete all the entries on the other machine. Then try syncing again. The categories are generally not the problem. What usually happens is that something in an entry is corrupted and not being read correctly by PsiWin. By syncing to an empty to-do section, the corruption is usually solved. You might also try just setting up a sync task just for to-do's and running that until you get things sorted out. Once you get a clean sync, there usually aren't any further problems.

Jim,

Thanks for the e/mail. Once again I deleted everything on Psion and synced. Also I removed Psion machine settings on PC. For time being it works! Thanks!

Also if you know some simple software (freeware) which would display in Day view only to-dos due on that specific day it would be perfect (something like in ActionNames for Palm users).

Thanks again and regards,

Kaja

Kaja,

I'm glad things are working again. To-do's are usually the least troublesome part of syncing as long as you don't make changes to same repeating item on both the Psion and Outlook. This particularly true for marking the same item completed on both platforms between syncs.

There is no freeware I'm aware of that will show you only today's to-do's. I suppose it might be possible to write a macro in Macro 5 that might simulate what you want but I haven't seen one and would have to think for a bit on how to do it.

The best program for doing what you want is BusyView. It has a list view that allows you to see only to-do's and just lists to-do's that are due today, overdue, or undated. Unfortunately, the author, Lieuwe de Vries, passed away and his estate left no way to register any of his very useful products.:(
