I use FreeBSD and Mac OS X as my desktops - yes I do have access to Windows, but would prefer not to use it and want to be able to install programs to my e740 by simply copying the exe files to the CF or SD card. Most of the time, though, when I do this and try to run the program from the File Explorer, I get the error message that "this program is not a pocket pc executable" or something to that effect. Is there a way to do what I am looking to do or do I absolutely need to use Active Sync? Also, is this error usually due to having a program that is compiled for another CPU or are their other reasons for this... I'm new to PPC so I would appreciate any help!
Thanks,

ps. I realize some programs are only available in cabs and for that I can use either active sync or another program that is in beta for OS X, but I am specifically talking about those programs already in exe format.
An example of what I tried to install can be found at:

and it doesn't work. (There are a few others like id=879, id=2976 and so on.)
