Hi all,

Did anybody manage to get the following (seemingly permanent) failure on the iQue (release 2, patch 1)? It's an excerpt from what I sent to Garmin's tech support. No reply so far.

Any suggestions from you guys on how to fix this?

Thanks,
HighFive

"QueRoutes crashed. When trying to save a (long) active route with 4 via points, the unit performed a spontaneous soft-reset. Now, when accessing the Saved Routes Menu in QueRoutes, a window with the following message appears (always):

"Fatal alert

utl_assert.c, Line :295, Assert failed at D:\SQA\kellogg\ique\ique3600_Release\Garmin\udb_sr te.c:3974 in UI

(Reset)"

After this reset, a manual reset, a HotSync with the Desktop overwriting the Handheld, or a hard reset with loss of data, the problem persists. Recalculating another route and trying to save it yields the same crash. A re-install of Release 2 of the iQue OS does not help either"

I haven't got this particular message but I did hit some problems with routes. Since they are stored in non-volatile memory which isn't affected by regular hard resets, you need to do something different. As far as I can remember the special reset sequence goes like this: press and hold the soft reset switch, press and hold Esc and the upper part of the middle split button, release the reset switch, wait several seconds and release the other buttons (if I got it wrong, please search the forum - I remember seeing a post with the correct sequence recently). WARNING: all your saved routes and recently found POIs will go away. I'm not sure about other data.

Hope that helps,

Jan

The button sequence is in the FAQ.

Jonas, maybe you could negotiate with forum admins putting your FAQ in front of the thread list, possibly as an announcement ? This way it would be much easier to spot, especially if you made it a single post, updated whenever there's a need.

About the FAQ, I have to figure out how to continue. As mentioned before, I had a problem moving html stuff from the better organized web site FAQ back to the thread on this forum

I haen't contacted the forum adm yet, will do that eventually, when we got thinks in shape and it seems to be running Ok.
For now, I'll simply post at the end to bring it up.
