Anyone else have trouble with this company?

Anyone else have trouble with this company? atszyman 12-31-2003, 08:35 AM I ordered a vent clip from them sometime between the 7th and 9th and recieved it around the 18th-19th. I started to wonder since they didn't offer any status messages or order status via their website but it eventually showed. I never did try to contact them so I have no clue how they handle that but I would expect that your clip should show sometime early next week probably delayed due to the holliday shipping backlogs. I'm pretty sure it was via US mail which seems more prone to holliday backups than FedEx or UPS. I realize that this probably doesn't help at all but hopefully it relieves some of your fears. jdcnpr 12-31-2003, 08:17 PM Just heard from customer service: Joe, Alot of customers who ordered that weekend don't seem to be getting their orders. We have begun resending orders and it should be there in no time. Please forgive the delay. I was just wondering if "atszyman" would explain how he mounted his iQue to the vent mount from The Clip company. Did you utilize the base from the car nav kit? If not, could you explain how you did it, perhaps with pictures. Thanks, David A. Hamments atszyman 01-01-2004, 10:54 PM I got an extra auto mount base and used the permanent adhesive disk to stick it too the vent clip. http://www.gpscity.com/gps/brados/52119.2.10914712940017850162/autobase.html I then clipped the assembly to one of the middle vents in my Jeep. I found that this was not precisely what I was looking for so I ended up moving the clip to the vent on the left of the steering wheel. For the Wrangler this puts in a nice position for viewing and keeps it out of the way of stereo and heater controls. I will try to post pictures soon. atszyman 01-02-2004, 01:34 PM Here is the side view of my mount. Note taht there is a small screw in the vent to keep it from rotating to the left when I corner. For awhile I had it held by cable tension but that didn't sit too well with me. atszyman 01-02-2004, 01:35 PM Here is a view from the driver's seat with no iQue installed. atszyman 01-02-2004, 01:35 PM Here it is with the iQue. atszyman 01-02-2004, 01:36 PM and another with a brighter screen. atszyman 01-02-2004, 01:39 PM To keep it from pivoting to far to the right the lock lever on the base seems to work perfectly. atszyman 01-02-2004, 01:42 PM One trick I did use I put the little arms for the clip on upside down so that the hanger has to go under the vent flap and then click up to go around kind of like my little ascii illustration below. __ |______________ This causes the vent clip to angle up slightly, although I'm not sure if this makes a difference one way or the other. dhamments 01-02-2004, 02:21 PM Thanks " atszyman " for all the trouble you took supplying us with photos of your install. I ordered two types of vent clips from TheClip.Com as they were so cheap, as well as 2 Garmin bases from Garmen (the other sites were 2$ cheaper, but out of stock). As soon as I receive this hardware, I'll attach the IQ to the vents of my Olds Aurora and Ford Contour, and hopefully have the same success you're enjoying!! D. Haments Pekkle 01-02-2004, 02:58 PM atszyman, That was some great idea you got there.. :) If you don't mind can you post a step by step way of making your custom fanclip? I am very interested.. :) atszyman 01-02-2004, 06:00 PM There really isn't much to it. get one of these the first one listed. http://www.theclip.com/mall/mounts.asp and one of these http://www.gpscity.com/gps/brados/6035.2.10993244898726627111/autobase.html and the Garmin Auto Nav kit http://www.gpscity.com/gps/brados/6035.2.10579364204826627111/iqueautonav.html Atatch the vent clip to the auto mount base using the permanent adhesive disk that comes with the auto mount base and install to the vent of your choice (I tried the temporary but it tends to melt when the heat is coming out of the vents). I also installed the vent clips upsidedown from how they are in the picture on theclip's website but I don't think that that really makes much of a difference. Then remove the sandbag base from the nav kit and the remaining piece should clamp into the auto mount base. The same thing could be achieved by removing the four screws keeping the sand bag on the base in the Nav kit but I wanted to have the option of using the sandbags for rental cars and whatnot. This worked nicely in a Jeep Wrangler since the vent to the left of the stearing wheel happened to place the iQue in a nice location. The dash already had grooves that fit the cable for the cigarette lighter adapter. I only needed to put one screw in the side of the vent to keep it from rotating left during turns. The lock lever keeps it from rotating right. I don't make any claims that the links are the cheapest you can find any of the items they just happen to be to the websites where I could find them the quickest. Pekkle 01-02-2004, 08:44 PM atszyman, Thanks! I will probably go with that solution if the dash mount doesn't work out in my wife's car. :) pdegnan 01-03-2004, 01:13 AM atszyman, amazing how things work - I was staring at the big heat vent on my 323is today trying to figure out how I was going to mount my iQue, since the dash slopes and won't hold the sandbag mount... and voila! There you were with the answer. As I read your post, it appears you suggest purchasing the other two accessories (additional sandbag mount and swivel mount) so you can swap the iQue between cars, correct? If I am not mistaken, just using velcro will accomplish the same thing, no - I don't need to move the iQue to another car, but I do need to move it to my motorcycle, and already have it mounted via velcro there. Anyhow, thanks for the tips ! Phil Degnan jdcnpr 01-06-2004, 04:26 PM Ordered 12/13 - shipped (or maybe reshipped) 1/3, received 1/6. Priority Mail from CA. mori 01-06-2004, 04:52 PM atszyman i also have a jeep wrangler and i also like that set up since i already have a proclip mount for my sat radio, that would be perfect spot for it . but i was wondering won't the heat hurt it ? atszyman 01-06-2004, 06:10 PM atszyman i also have a jeep wrangler and i also like that set up since i already have a proclip mount for my sat radio, that would be perfect spot for it . but i was wondering won't the heat hurt it ? I haven't had a problem with it yet. I generally don't blow heat out of the vents anyway I typically use the defrost and floor vents. This shouldn't be any worse than sticking the bean bag on your dash with the windshield defrost running. Since the defrost for the side windows is behind the iQue. reinbeau 01-06-2004, 06:12 PM What I do in my Ranger is keep that vent pointed down, so it blos away from the back of the iQue. atszyman 01-06-2004, 06:15 PM Thinking about it there shouldn't be that much of a problem even if you use the vents since the piece that clips into the auto mount base raises the iQue mostly out of the way of the vent. With the vent clip installed it keeps the air fins pretty much level if not angled downward. mori 01-06-2004, 06:47 PM thanks for reply i think i'll mount my q there, i have one more question. in my jeep i have a sat radio the antenna is mounted on a overhead console (cb rack) with the hard or softtop the antenna works fine, full signal strenghth. do you think the gillson antenna will work there? could i mount the q from the overhead console PDA Street
