Thinking about buying a refurbished iPAQ 5450 from hp.com. I have read many bad reviews about the 5450 however those reviews have yet to be updated since the 5450 came out. With all the updates/drivers for the 5450 how does it rank compared to the 5555? Have the glitches been fixed such as battery issues, unit getting hot, may resets, etc????? Thank you for your input!

I don't have official answers, but mine has been pretty good. Had it for a year now.

No issues with the battery, nor has it ever gotten hot. Also the only two hard resets that have occured were because I had it packed tightly in a bag while traveling, and the record button was pressed in to run the battery down. I've since gotten a case for it, and it hasn't happened since.

I hadn't seen the "bad" reviews for them.

For my unit - I've never installed or applied any "fixes" or patches.

Runs great with the original Pocket PC 2002 - out of the box. Those are the only bad revies I've seen - the Windows Mobile 2003 upgrade - and that's mostly due to the lack of drivers.

For the money - depending on the price you're paying for it - the newer 5555 series is retailing at $650, so you can find it for less.

Hope this helps.

Thank you! And it does help. Are you happy with the 5450 or would you prefer the 4155 or 5550? Thanks!

For me personally, I'm happy with the 5455. It has Consumer Grade IR, whereas the 5555 or 4155 don't. I've controlled VCR's and Televisions at work in conference or training rooms from about 25 feet or more.

The 4155 won't accept expansion sleeves, but it is a little smaller, which a lot of people really like.

The 5555 is a newer incarnation of the 5455, and has twice the memory (128MB vs the 64 in the 5455) It also will accept the various Expansion Sleeves that are in existence.

If you don't have any now though, not a big reason to stick with that form factor.

It really comes down to what you want to use it for. there are some good articles on each of these units at http://www.pdabuyersguide.com/ppc.htm
