Just a quick query: can I delete all the .sis files which accumulate after installing applications. I use Citymaps, with the maps installed on a CF card, but installing each map puts a .sis file on drive C, and I now have lots of them. Do they serve any purpose? Can I get rid of them? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes, you can delete the .SIS files once you have completed installation. There is a function to perform this automatically if you wish:

Go to Add/Remove Programs > Prefs, and make sure "Delete .SIS installation file" is ticked.

As far as I know, the default setting is to auto-delete, so it looks as though yours has been changed at some point.

These probably aren't the files your talking about but make sure you don't manually delete any of the .sis files in your system/install folder(s) though. These are the uninstall files and deleting these makes things a little trickier if you ever want to remove something.

Yes, good advice Adam! My answer was based on the assumption that petert was referring to the .sis files used for installation. I think the auto-delete option is the safer choice to make sure that necessary files are retained.

Just delete if you have completed installation. You might change your setting to automatically delete the .sis file after its done its stuff.

By the way ... where did you get CityMaps? I though that there was no mapping available other than Route Planner Millennium (monochrome, unfortunately)

Unless someone can point me elsewhere ....

CityMaps is the street level mapping program from TomTom, the maker of Route Planner. It has always been available in colour as far as I am aware.

The latest Route Planner v3 is in also in full glorious colour. It also integrates superbly with street planner allowing you to switch easily from route to street level as you near your destination.

I would like to see what both of them look like when run on the s7. Do you (or anyone else) know where I might look at an actual screen dump or grab? I have looked on TomTom's site and the only stuff there is displayed in PocketPC format :{

A shot of RoutePlanner v3 in colour. Note the grey hatched box areas which indicate a CityMap has been installed covering that area. You can quickly switch to CityMaps by simply tapping in the hatched area.

John ..

going back a bit, you mentioned Street Planner in the same breath as City Maps.... are these one and the same?

Yes, it was renamed recently. CityMaps is the current version.
I bought mine recently on impulse at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport whilst passing through on business - it was the 100,000 European City version. About a week later I was furious to find a DVD version which covered 200,000 cities for not much extra!
