Hi,

I have just recently purchased a Toshiba E740 and am struggling to work out how to do things. I originally got it to sync to my work network first pop and now a few weeks later have tried again and it won't work.
It keeps saying:
Syncronization failed. If the problem continues contact network administator. Error 0X80090305.
I have had someone look at my setup and they are non the wiser.

Secondly I am still unsure how to get a program from my laptop or PC to run on the Hand Held. I have downloaded exe files from the internet and then when I try to run them it gives me errors saying that it doesn't recognise the program.

Can someone also explain what BlueTooth is - I assume that for it to work my PC or laptop has to have that as well. I got very little help or instruction from the dealer and wish there were some classes I could go to here in Australia to learn how to use this except for adding contacts and notes. It seems a lot of money to do simple things when I am sure it can do lots of wonderful things if I only knew how.

thanks from a very green user

I have had a lot of trouble with ActiveSync 3.5. I just today tried ActiveSync 3.6 and it seems more stable.

Bluetooth is a wireless communication protocol. Your e740 can communicate via radio waves with other Bluetooth-enabled equipment. Normal usage would be to connect to a portal into the Internet or to connect to a desktop PC.

As to downloading... I would think that most "exe" files are meant to run on a PC and use ActiveSync to send the program to the PocketPC. They usually then trigger the PocketPC to do the final installation.

Downloads that are "cab" files are to be put directly on the PocketPC where the PocketPC decompresses them and installs them. Below are some instructions from a web site. You want the "ARM" cab file for the e740.

1.Use Windows Explorer on your PC to browse to the ActiveSync folder. On our computers, this is at "C:\Program Files\Microsoft
ActiveSync", but of course, you may have installed to a different drive or folder. This folder will contain additional folders for
programs that have been installed.
2.Open the folder for the product that you are trying to install now.
3.Inside that folder will be several files ending with an extension of .cab. Locate the .cab file that matches your processor and
version number. For instance, if you are installing to a CE 2.0 device that uses an SH3 processor, choose the cab file including
"200" and "sh3" in the name. If you are installing to an HPC device using CE 2.11 and an SH4 processor, choose the cab file
including "211H" and "sh4" in the name. (Note that the "H" and "P" are used to distinguish Hand-held PCs from Palm-size PCs.)
4.Select the Explore button in ActiveSync. Browse to the \Windows\Start Menu folder on your device. If you can't find this folder, go to \Windows\Programs.
5.Drag the cab file from the folder on your PC to the \Windows\Start Menu (or Windows\Programs) folder in ActiveSync. This will copy the file from your PC to your device.
6.Now on your device, choose Start and then the file that you just copied (or Start > Programs then the file you just copied). The
installation will start on the device. When it is complete, the file that you copied will be automatically deleted.
