Garmin iQue 3600
I just found that when I use the Palm OS Find Feature, no matter what I input in to search for the unit dims and then does a soft reset. The Mapsource Find works as it should. I do not know how long it has not been not working, so therefore I have no idea what I may have changed or added to break it. If someone can tell me how to fix it I would sure appreciate it. I ran the repair program from the original install disk and that did not help. Thanks

Try changing or adding to your map selection and do a Hotsynch. This will cause your detailed map to be recreated and overwrite the one currently on your SD card. Sounds like a corrupted map file to me and hopefully this will cure it.

ps If you can recreate this problem without the SD Card being in the unit then don't bother with the above.

I'm having a similar crash when using Palm OS find.
Any time I try it I get a Fatal Alert:
Emul68KMain.c, Line:456, line 1111 exception at address 00BA45A6
& the reset button
I do the reset(soft) & everything is normal, except of course Palm OS find.
Happens with & without the SD card.
I contacted Garmin & they had no answer & were supposedly forwarding it to the software people.
Would love to find an answer, I can't find anything right now!

I think it's the same error that I've seen before. In that case, it will be cured in release 3.

Hard reset unit, Create new user name, transfer all addresses, date book, memo pad, from old user name to new user name. You have something corrupt under your current user name. Doing what I listed above will clean up anything that is corrupted and fix the Palm OS find reset issue.

I had the same problem. Garmin Tech Support told me about it and fixed me right up.

I've had this problem with previous Palm devices and it was always the result of a corrupt file somewhere in the Palm and not the Find application itself.

An alternative to removing and reloading your applications is to use FindHack which has the ability to select specific applicaitons or databases you want to search. Using this feature you should be able to isolate whatever program or database is giving you the problem and then fix it or remove it.

I have called Garmin twice. The techs I talked to had never heard about the problem. I just downloaded FindHack and found WordToGo to be the problem app by activating the apps I use, in FindHack, one at a time. Address, Appointment Schedule, and WordToGo. After adding WTG, the error message appeared. When I deactivated it in FindHack, I was able to search without the problem. Thanks for the suggestion to use FindHack!

Glenn you were right. Like tcsbob mine also turned out to be a document in WordToGo. Using FindHack like tcsbob did I narrowed it down to the bad file. Thanks to all of you for your imput and help.

I agree with Glenn. Find will crash if there is a problem with the underlying program that Find is acting on. One of your programs is bad and you need to find the offender. As someone else pointed out you can do this with FindHack.

You can get most Palm software on Palmgear.com . Just make sure you get the version for OS5. It's a shareware program so you can try it before paying.

I had this problem too. Here's what someone suggested in a previous thread and it worked for me:

There is an easier answer--Documents to Go conflicts with the Find function. Go to DTG--Options--Preferences--Set Prefs For and remove the DTG components from the Global Find feature. If this doesn't work, then do the Hard reset thing...

Disabled Global Search in WTG prefs-found Palm OS Find in Apps list-tried it-it worked. I have already purchased FindHack(14.95). It is has some nice features. I think I'll keep using it anyway. I'm a little surprised that Garmin techs are not aware of the conflict. DataViz is aware and on their support page say that their enginneering dept. is working on it. I found FH after a google search.

I found FH after a google search. I think the Garmin techs are being a little disingenuous here. DTG is third party software (and I seriously wonder why it was included in the iQue package, given the Datavis attitude written about here, but I digress) and most hardware suppliers don't want to deal with third party compatibility. Garmin is well aware of the issues here, they've heard about them from many people.

I bought the Documents To Go, version 6.005.
So far, I haven't had any find problem with it, although I do have that enabled.

In "About Documents To Go", I find Ver 6.005 (695). When I have Set Prefs for for Word To Go "include in global find" checked, a Palm OS 5 find causes the error message and the need to reset. When I have it unchecked, the Palm OS 5 performs the find without a problem. Could some additional 3rd party software be affecting Word To Go. I deleted all the WTG files in the IQ and put a check in "include in global find". Then did a Palm OS 5 find. That caused a reset without the error message. Unchecked it again, did a POS5 find - no problem.

You've found a problem with Word to Go. You can email the author to let him know.

FindHack fixed mine as well, same issue in WordToGo
Disabled & all is well.
Now can I get FindHack on the Que Find screen instead of the Palm Find?

Thanks!

I have Documents To Go, version 6.005 (695).
I have checked "Include in global find".
I have no problem, right now, knock on wood...

Same here, no problems.

My problem was caused by a corrupted file which happened to be in Documents to Go. It was converted from an Excel file by Docs to Go. How or when the file got corrupted I do not know and I certainly can not place the blame on Docs to Go, it could have been caused by a number of things. Find Hack gave me the ability to determine which file was bad and deleting it took care of the Find Soft Reset problem.

I still had the original Excel file and had Docs to Go convert it again and so far no problems.

I deleted all my DocsToGo files on the Garmin and still had the problem.

I just got an email from Garmin giving 24 steps to resolve the problem by totally removing all WTG files from IQ and desktop and redownloading WTG and the Doc To Go update, and reinstalling them. That seems to solve the problem. It also may explain why some are not having the problem. They may already have the update installed. FindHack may not be necessary to solve this problem, but it is a nice app.
