I just got my new TE today. I was so excited and I followed all the instructions to get started. I put it on the charger for 3 hours. I turned it on. It told me to tap the various targets. Then asked a couple of other questions to get it set up. Then suddenly a box popped up that said I had a low battery and should charge it. Before I could read any more or really think about it, the TE shut down. I charged it for 3 more hours and it wouldn't turn on by the power button. I do a soft reset and when it gets to the date setting part it shuts off again. This time I checked the outlet I was using by plugging in a radio. It worked, so I plugged the TE back into it. Now it's been 3 more hours and it still is doing the same thing. It's SOOOO disappointing! Well, I've got it on the charger still. I sure hope it will come on in the morning. Is it normal to take a long time to charge the first time?

The first T|E I purchased from OfficeMax did the same thing.
When I called Palm tech support and explained what was happening the rep immediately responded with "just return it where you purchased it". Apparently they must have manufactured "a few" with bad batteries, no matter how long you leave it charging it will never power up.
I ended up ordering one from palmone.com figuring they'd have the most recent inventory. Maybe, maybe not but the one I have now works like a charm.
Good luck.

Sorry that's happening to you! I hate nothing more than to get a cool new toy & then have there be something dreadfully wrong with it and not be able to use it.
No, it is definitely NOT normal for any electronic item to take that long to charge. Your battery's defective like the PP said. I got my TE at OfficeMax too but mine was ready to go w/in 2 hours when I got it. Just take it back & get a new one.
