I have an ipaq 5450 and a Sony Erricson T86i bluetooth cell phone. I have EasySMS installed on the ipaq. I can connect to 2 serial ports to my cellphone via bluetooth, however the software is not recieving/sending any text messages to the phone. I have tried all the different com ports, and none seem to work. the right com port seems to do stuff, but then fails eventually. I dont get it, my Sony UX50 sent/recieved text messages fine and with no setup! same with the wifi, it was much simplier! *begins to hate microsoft pocketpc os*

I have it working with my iPAQ h4150. I use BTC1 (Bluetooth Com 1) port in EasySMS and it work fine.
Check the following:
1. Ensure your T68i is in "Discoverable" mode (in the Bluetooth menu).
2. I'm not sure if this is absolutely necessary, but make sure your phone is a paired device on the Pocket PC, and ensure your Pocket PC is a paired device on your phone. This is done in Bluetooth Manager.

They find each other, and are paired... and it says on my iPaq Bluetooth serial is set at Com 5 and 8, and SMS set to 8 (outbound) it lists my phone, so I hit ok, and then it asks serial port 1 or 2, and either one leads to the message after 20-30 seconds:
No transfer to mobile possible
I dont even get to see my phone to pick those options with any other com port selected in SMS, including any of the bluetooth ones...?

Most of your previous message doesn't mean anything to me, as I have not had to perform any of those steps.
First, I activate bluetooth on my T68i, and the activate discoverable mode.
When I first used the EasySMS program, I clicked on the little settings icon at the bottom, and the screen that appears has a list of com-ports (COM1-COM9, BTC1-BTC4, BTC11 on my device). I selected BTC1. The I just go to the program a select, for example, recieve SMS, and it worked.
The only thing I use iPAQ bluetooth manager for in this regard is to pair my phone/iPAQ.

Do you activate discoverable everytime you want to use it with your ipaq?

Yes. I also just tried EasySMS without discoverable mode on, and it wouldn't work, it said "No transfer to mobile possible".
I also tried a GPRS internet connection through bluetooth without discoverable mode on, and it didn't work.

Wow...well if thats the case...
Can anyone else recommend an SMS program for pocketpc? No way am I going to use my phone to connect to my cell phone for text messages when I have to have my phone in hand. whats the point??
I tell you guys, Palm OS really is calling me back quick... if it werent for the lack of software support for OBD2 programs...

Discoverable mode is just a security feature of the phone. I doubt there is any software that will let you avoid having your T68i in-hand. I mean, surely you don't have bluetooth activated all of the time on your T68i anyway, because it drains the battery very quickly - I only activate bluetooth when I need it.

Actually yes, my Sony UX50 could send/recive text with my phone staying in its pocket all the time, never needed to be set in any mode, and my phone lasts days between recharge and I have bluetooth set on always on...

That's interesting. I'll have to have a play around with the settings to see if it can be done without using discoverable mode. Initially I thought your "Sony UX50" was a different mobile phone, not a PDA. Now as I understand it you had a Sony Clie with palm OS connected to your T68i?
I used to only get 2-3 days (closer to 2) out of the battery with bluetooth or ir always on on my T68i (and I don't make many calls either), which is not acceptable to me. With them off I get over a week (i.e. 7+ days) of use of the phone without recharging.
If you find any better sms software, please let us know.

Will do... but all I've seen was payware, and it isnt worth $30 to me for this feature when people are making freeware versions.
Yea my UX Clie was awesome, however it was far to expensive for me to keep so I had to sell it off. I paid half for my 5450 that came with 256mb SD card, portable keyboard, and loads of other stuff form this guy on ebay.
I never liked the Palm devices though, they were always underpowered, but after spending some time with the UX, I got to know why people loved them... everythig was automatic! i walked into newark airort, and all i had to do was type in a web address and my palm automatically searched for, and set up for internet wifi settings. i didnt even have to pair it with my cell phone, i just used the bluetooth phone software that came preinstalled with the OS and hit get messages. plus it was so small and light, and the fold out swivle screen feature was awesome. The camera was crappy on it, but better then what ive seen built in on other pdas in the past, and the battery life was simply amazing... i could go the entire day of use with it with all the bells and wistles and not have to recharge, and the fact that it had a usable keyboard that you didnt have to have the fingers of a 5 year old to use was very very handy.
too bad no one makes decent entertainment software for palm, and they overcharge you for everything... :(
