Has anyone successfully synchronized an M505 to a PC using Infrared?
My old Palm V synchronizes just fine, so I know it’s not my computer- the M505 is super slow, taking over 10 minutes to Sync. I’ve tried changing settings, Etc.

You may be setting a record for the slowest of the slow IR Syncs!
IR as you must have noted with the prior Palm, is a slower sync than serial and much slower than USB.
What have you done with the speed settings on the port? Try going both up and down in speed. If you are up, go down.
What is the port setting on the PC? And what OS is on the PC?

Thanks for replying.
The IR port setting on the PC is set to MAX (4 Mbps). I backed it off to 115.2k to match the Palm to see if it would make a difference, but it didn't. Again, my old Palm V IR Syncs almost as fast as Serial connection (it Hotsyncs in less that a minute) with the current settings of my PC, and I set the M505 IR Horsync settings to match the Palm V IR Hotsync settings.
I called Palm Support about this when I first got the unit- they were no help, but I was surprised to find that they weren’t aware of a problem with the M505 IR Hotsync. So I'm glad to hear from pdawizard.
Dr Mud, did you get the M505 to IR Hotsync?

If your Palm Vx was running OS3.5 we probably havbe an answer.
Check the Bios setting on the PC. It should be set to FIR not SIR.

Set both to 57.6k and see if that helps. It helps when you have a Serial connection.

Thanks to the great help. I was able to get it to work! The solution is two fold. First- replace the IR driver in Windows from a Fast IR Port driver to a Standard IR Port driver; and second- change the BIO setting speed from Fast IR to Slow IR.
Here’s what I did:
I’m running Windows 2000 OS. In the Wireless Link application, under the Hardware tab, I double clicked on the IR driver (was ‘SMC IrCC-Fast Infrared Port’). I clicked Update Driver and it went into the Driver Wizard- Selected ‘Display List of Drivers…..Selected ‘Show all hardware…….Clicked (Standard Infrared Port) and selected ‘Built-in Infrared Device’. A dialog box popped up saying I could blow up my system, so I ignored it. Once the driver was loaded, I restarted the system, went into Setup and changed the IR speed from Fast IR to Slow IR. Once back in Windows, I made sure the IR speed on the PC and the Palm were both 115.2 Kbps.
The first IR Hotsync, took about 15 minutes, like it was the first time, but consequent Hotsyncs were much faster. I’m down to 3 minutes, and that’s with Avantgo and ‘Documents To Go’ in there.
Good Luck pdawizard!

What program do you use to sync via infrared? Is it built into the palm os, or do you need a shareware program to do it?
Thanks.

Go to the HotSync Icon on your Palm and tap. When it opens you will see the HotSync Icon in the middle of the screen and just below that a small drop down menu. Drop it down and set it to "IR to PC."
