Good day all!

Here's a brain teaser... I want to connect my Clie T625 to a Psion travel modem, which was last used on my old Psion 3mx. it has a non- standard RS232 connector to the Psion, but what appears to be a standard connection at the point where the cable from psion meets the modem.

Am I wasting my time with this? Would anyone have a suggestion for a suitable alternative modem to the official Sony product?

Rumours have it that the more recent Psion 56k IR modem is compatible.

Any help and advice would be appreciated.

Thanks! :)

You'll need a Clie serial hotsync cable and a gender changer to marry them up. You'll probably need to get a crossover cable/connector as well to swap the Rx and TX lines... by the time you've got all that the IR modem may welll prove cheaper.

If you're in the UK Dixons are knocking them out for £25 atm (in the in-store bargain bins). It works very well although the IR range is only about a metre.

Thanks for the advice! It makes sense for me to go for the much faster IR version.

I've seen the IR modem for 69 quid at Currys, so Dixons it is!

Cheers.

AAAAARRRGGGHH! I'm driving myself MAAAAADDDDD with this one!!!

Ihave a PEG-T625 which will not communicate with a new Psion 56k IR travel modem. I get a "no dial tone" report after a couple of retries.

What am I doing wrong???? Help me!! Please!

FYI the following setup:

Clie PEG-T625
Psion 56k IR Travel Modem
Inbox to go software on Clie
settings (?) for ntlworld ISP

The darn modem does seem to be reacting to the Clie, as the data led flickers; but the modem will not open the phone line to give a dial tone, therefore I don't know if my settings are correct or not.

Have I got a faulty modem? Should I be using an init string other than ATZ?

Please preserve my sanity someone!
