Hello all, I'm experimenting a dramatic long time in route calculations, but I have no reference to compare this time with some other GPS, maybe it's normal, though i'm a little amazed by that...
My work condition, Northern Italy detailed map loaded into a 128M SD, AStlantic Basemap, the route goes from Pordenone (the town where I live) to a small town near Venice, a trip of only 72 Kilometer!
there are Highways and other important roads in between, so the unit has not to bother finding "strange" paths to reach destination..
well.. this calculation toke TWO WHOLE minutes!!
whet's your experience about that??

Adolfo,
as I have Italy and other parts of European countries loaded in my 256 mb sandisk card I can repeat your test....
Just give us the addresses.
Maybe you will need to reinstal the maps on the card.

For 72 kilometers, the time sounds about right. Route calcuation is not super fast, but you'll get used to it. At least it would be faster than looking on maps.

I looked for Pordenone in Route 66 on PC, also a Navtech database. There is a problem with that name, the map jumps between two names. Give a street in Pordenone and a street in another city close to Venice.

well, for all who have the italian map:
starting location is
city: Pordenone (PN)
address: chiesa di Rorai
destination is:
city: Zelarino (VE)
the card where detailed map resides is marked as "Apacer" 128MB SD memory card, I read somewhere that some cards are faster, some are slower.. I bought the first one I saw in the shop, I use to be very unlucky in these things :-)
I have firmware release 2, no patch, TealScript and a wireless keyboard driver running in the background, I did not try to disable all the background processes...
thanks in advance

As it was the only thing I could do at the moment I ran mapsource on pc..... it calculated the way with ease, no problems at all. I let you know how much it takes the calculation on my sandisk (which it is not known as the fastest card on earth...).

Adolfo,
I used Route 66 since I don't have Italy maps in iQue. 15 seconds.
But looking at the map there are lots of roads that the software has to deal with. ANother interesting point is that both the fastest and the shortest route leads you onto the same small road network, inspite of the A4 autostrada runing nearby. Taking the A4 still wouldn't be a good idea now because of traffic ques signalled by TMC (traffic message channel) that you can see on an internet connected computer.
I think the two minutes are because this route is still made up by a lot of choices.
But then I haven't seen the other results.

It might has some thing to do with SD card speed, also I noticed the Garmin 2610 calculate everything faster than the iQue.

Adolfo,
I calculated the route from Pordenone Chiesa di Rorai to Zelarino on the iQue: the calculation took 18 seconds.
I have ad 256 mb sandisk card filled with 200 mb of maps. I have also City Navigator Europe v5 installed.
Maybe you can try to reinstall all the maps to see if it helps....

Which makes me wonder íf route calculation is faster with City Nav than City Express.
Since most european users here are british, I think it would be best to have a test on UK addresses So let's have a test on a route beteen some randomly chosen addresses that others could repeat. Would the british please suggest and give the first result?
