Howdy! I've recently acquired a Palm Vx (actually an IBM Workpad but in every respect a Palm) and have installed AvantGo. Its great but I'm having a bit of a problem. I use my Palm at home and at work. I set up all my AvantGo channels at home and sync'ed them successfully to my Palm. However in work, thanks to the firewall or some other aspect of the set-up (blegh! :() when I sync my Palm in work all my channels are deleted and I'm returned to the 'You've successfully installed AvantGo but haven't set up any channels' screen. This is a major pain in the arse as I sync at least once or twice a day in work. I can reload my channels by sync'ing at home but I don't necessarily sync at home every day. So I'd like to set up AvantGo and my Palm so that it doesn't automatically sync so that I don't lose all my channels when I sync in work but so that I can chose to update my channels if I sync at home.

Hope someone can help.

You need to hide the Avantgo app. Not all the channel info so much as the main app. Consider downloading a little app called FlyZip from PalmGear. I believe it is free if used for only one app. Zip the Avantgo app when you don't want it to sync.

All you need to do (assumes PC Hotsync) is:

1. right click on hotsync icon in system tray and select "custom".

2. Find the "AvantGo Connect" line.

3. Click "Change" button.

4. Select "Do nothing".

5. Select "Set as default".

6. Click "Ok".

You've now disabled the AvantGo conduit.

You can also uninstall AvantGo at work, as this should remove the conduit (a different way to disable it).

I've not tried with this particular conduit, but it has worked for others....

My reading of the initial post was that the Avantgo conduit had not been established on the work computer. Clearly if the conduit is there then setting its default to "DO NOTHING" is the simple answer.

Only dubspud can tell us the real story (If we really need to know). I don't care, as long as he has a solution that works for him.

If you're right then maybe a solution would be to install AvantGo on his work computer and disable the conduit.

FYI-AvantGo setup SHOULD determine how to traverse a firewall IF you run the network test during setup. I have had no problems, maybe because I installed AvantGo on my home & work machine, AND allowed the network test to run on both machines.

Other apps that I've setup to only sync at work (or at home) don't get screwed up by the Hotsync that DOES NOT have the conduit. But I suspect that there are cases where missing conduit equates to messed up data.

Thank you, you clever people! genoahous, your simple step-by-step solution worked perfectly. I've just sync'ed with my work computer and my AvantGo files are still there. I don't think the conduit is properly installed on my work computer (during set up there were problems when the system tested the communication between my work computer and my Palm).

I've a lot to learn about my new toy and I'm sure I'll be back for more advice. Thanks again folks!
