We are trying to use a Ipaq as a digital key for security purposes for example a guard walks around a building with the ipaq and logs on to various memory cards about the building by plugging in the card in to the expansion port. We propose to store a packet of info on the memory card so that the route can be plotted and timed on the ipaq. We are concerned that they will copy the packet of software to a blank card and not leave the security hut.

Can anyone help with away to ensure they can not copy the card info no. etc to the pocket PC and back to a blank card. Does anyone have any software available to stop this and keep the packet of info safe?

Please copy me in on email luke@collins1000.freeserve.co.uk

Thanks for your help.

Have the cards reside in a reader attached to a network and write data to the Card . Have the 'Security Person' insert the card into the Handheld device and the application read off the card and replace the card in the reader. Means that they have to do the rounds as the card is only updated say every hour and each card entry is serialised and recorded on the Handheld deveice for sync later and verification. HOQZAT !!

How about a twist on the old fashioned way? Have the security personnel scan bar codes at the various locations of coverage and perhaps send via wireless the scanned code and device id to a central location? This would require some programming, but I would not be surprised to find a packaged solution already on the market.

Perhaps this company can be of assistance: http://www.axis.com/.
