Netbook on table - someone comes in for the overhead projector, I'm too slow (reactions not their best at 8.30am) and ... "Crash!" A drop test from 80 cm onto ceramic tiles (floors don't come much harder than that!).
The damage? None! The keyboard became unseated and so was raised at the front, and the spacebar came off, but with a little "gentle persuasion" I was able to get them both back in place.
So in this case at least the Netbook has stood up to the "1 metre onto a wooden floor" claim by Psion.
BTW, I guess it's the leather "binding", but I feel that the odd scuff/scratch on the casing isn't so bad, and might actually even add "character" to my Netbook, just like a well-thumbed book. Never have I seen a piece of computer equipment that so begs to be picked up, used and, if not chucked about with abandon, then at least handled relatively roughly. I was always terrified when carrying the 5mx around, especially with that shiny-smooth finish (pretty but a bit dangerous I always thought).
Regards
Colin
