Here's the deal. I actually have two problems with Palm Desktop v4.0 on Mac OS X.

The immediate problem is uninstalling the Missing Sync (http://www.markspace.com/). How do you do that? I want to uninstall both it and the Palm Desktop. Sadly, the Missing Sync installation program doesn't offer an 'uninstall' feature, nor do they offer any instructions either on the install CD or on their web site.

But that's only because I'm working on solving the more pressing problem which is hotsync fails (Mac OS X v10.1.5, Sony Clie t665, Palm Desktop v4.0 for OS X, Missing Sync). In a nutshell:

1. the system is set up so that software is installed by the system administrator. Ordinary uses are, well, ordinary users. Installation of Palm Desktop v4.0 went ok. Ditto for Missing Sync software.

2. System Administrator can hotsync fine with the Clie. Palm Desktop runs fine, everything hunky-dory.

3. Ordinary [non-administrator] users can't hotsync. The Plam desktop runs fine, Hotsync manager runs fine. Hotsync fails. Every conduit reports in the hotsync log this error: "You do not have the necessary access privileges. See the system administrator for assistance."

But wait, there's more. Ordinary user's can open the conduit manager, but see no list of conduits. All they get is a menu bar with an FILE..EXIT pick on it.

The whole thing smells like the Palm Desktop installation program (or the Mark/Space Missing Sync installer) is setting permissions incorrectly somewhere.

As expected, Palm has to date been less than useless (to be kind). And Mark/Space...well, one would thing they would read their email, wouldn't one?

So...anybody got any ideas on how to fix this problem?
