Has anyone here used Nconvert? If so what have been the benefits and also short comings of this programme? I am considering buying a NetBook to replace most of my PC activities but I do receive a number of MS Excel and Word documents as e-mail attachments and need to be able to read amend and return them to PC users.
Thanks,
Grant

In my experience the conversion for microsoft word works really well. As far as Excel is concerned I do not use it as I find it far from adequate and quicker to use psiwin (which is far from perfect) and then make any alterations.
It would appear that the developers have lost interest in the product as I have emailed them asking for information on an update but recieved no reply.
So if you are using nconvert for word I would recommend it, but not for excel in its current form.

Thanks - I too still await a reply to my e-mail to Neuon regarding this application.

In my experience the conversion for microsoft word works really well It was my understanding that "nConvert" only supported conversion to and from .RTF format and not Microsoft Word directly. Has this changed in a more recent release?

I do receive a number of MS Excel and Word documents as e-mail attachments and need to be able to read amend and return them to PC users Be aware that the Psion's "Sheet" application only supports single sheets and not workbooks with multiple sheets. I believe that multiple sheets in an Excel workbook are displayed within the psion's single spreadsheet, but this might be somewhat messy.

I hope this reply I got from neuon last july may sound interesting for you:
"We have plans to update it at some point in the future to fix some bugs in the excel converter, but unfortunately we don't have any solid timescales for this"
I do use the excel converter when I am far from my PC and I found that extremely useful for opening my company's price list (which are about 800 kb each one). they are composed of two sheets in one file and nconvert splits them into two separate files (one with extension - d and the other with - s).
I suppose that the utility of adopting this SW may be connected with the kind of excel files you need to work at...

I just re-installed nconvert to my os-updated netbook and it sddenly seems broken - did anybody else have this problem?
BAsically, Icannot convert html documents anymore.
Ihave the html conversion files installed, have re-installed them twice infact, but still no joy. Keep getting the message "this is an unrecognised file type" or something like that, yet the file opens fine in Opera!
Anybody able to help?
Oh, by the way, concerning a previous post, as Mike McC said, nconvert DOESN'T convert MSWord files, they get converted by a part of the message suite (I think) which automaticlaly recognises ".doc" files and loads the file into Epoc Word. NB: A lot of formatting is lost, but you retain all the text and some simple formatting.

To which drive did you install?
I had this problem, in fact I could not use several Neuon programs I installed, but I found it worked when I reinstalled to the C drive.
My only guess is that with nFTP, some libraries are already installed on the C drive, and the other programs that use those libraries need to be on the same drive. For whatever reason, installing on C got me up and running. Guess I'll need that extra 32MB after all...
Let me know if that helps,

Thanks for the advice, but my (registered! copy of nconvert is installed on C, so this can't be the problem. Also, when I check the installed files list the HTML conversion file is installed.
In case it helps the exact error message I get is:
"Supporting library not found:
nConvert cannot convert this document because a supporting library used by this converter is missing."
NB: Ihave a fully installed version installed. and it manages to convert excel and gifs. but not html!!?!?! help?

If the .html files are filled with a bunch of "gibberish" (useless code), the nConvert may not be able to convert them to a readable format.
How complex are the files that you are attempting to convert?
Does it fail with all .html files?
Have you tried converting Word or Sheet to .html and seeing how they convert back?
Just some ideas.
Hope this helps.
