I recently purchased the Topo WEST maps and tried to load a combo of detailed street maps and certain topo maps.

Mapsource docs state that they can be merged into one map file for download to the iQue, however when I download the file only the detailed maps are there (in detail). While I can see the small outlines of the loaded Topo maps, there in no detail, e.g. no elevation lines, trails, etc.

Any thoughts?

A combo covering the same area? It looks so, at least.

GPS - Preferences - Maps - Detailed Maps, then open the menu and tap on Enable Topo West (or whatever they are called).

Maps are layered. If you have one layer "on", other layers beneath can't be seen. City Select resides above Topo.

However, if your Topo maps are at a location where you don't have any CS maps, then something else is wrong.

The only truly merged maps I know of are raster maps in fugawi with teleatlas vectorized road map on top. There you can see both at the same time. Europe only I guess. More info: www.Fugawi.de

Jonas,

Can you kindly point me to the link to view one of the merged maps since my single language skills make it rather difficult to find :(

Anders,

Do I understand you to say If I don't have a detailed map loadedc for an area then I could view a topo merged map?

With pleasure.

I don't know why this is only shown on the german site and only in german.

Go to fugawi.de (http://www.fugawi.de/index.html)

First go to Digitale Karten to read a little on the Tele atlas vector maps: This page in english, btw.

Next Fugawi onlinehilfe

scroll down to Vektorkarten

Choose to see how to import and open vector maps - or how the overlay function works. This is a sequential presentation that can be seen online - to see it you choose Vorführung online ansehen

or download the zip file.

The vector road maps can be overlayed on top of sea charts also, so you know what the roads leading from a harbour look like. Can't find the linkm now. And they can be overlayed on top of photos (any non vectorized image actually) as here from a Swedish seller of Fugawi - aerial photo (http://www.soltek.se/kartor/vektor/bilder/overlag_soderk.jpg)

Scroll down this page to see thumbnails of more pics (http://www.soltek.se/kartor/vektor/vektoreurope.htm)

Here are roads on chart (http://www.soltek.se/kartor/vektor/bilder/oregrund_sjokort536_europa4.jpg)

It ain't pretty but it works. But as mentioned below you can chaneg colours and customize the vectorized info.

You can drive by the TA maps only, they would then have some bckground. I used them for travelling through Norway last summer. But you can't route with them, they don't seem to be attributed for that.

The roads of the vector map can be exported together with the raster map image to Palm/iQue. But any exported map to Palm looses its vector capacity. What's neat with them on the PC is that you can change colors and a lot of other things on the vector overlay whereas the background raster image remains unaltered.
I haven't seen any US vector maps that can be used but since TA does us vector maps it should be in the pipe line.

Wow Jonas,

Thanks for the detailed directions. Much more than I expected :)

Several of the German maps made me homesick for a visit :)
