I can not seem to get the iPAQ and the T610 and Bluetooth working together to enable me to use GPRS.

I have tried surfing the web for answers, and currently the furthest I have got is as follows:

Settings:

on T610 - I have a working and active GPRS settings -

I have paired the phone and the iPAQ

I have put the following into the iPAQ connection manager :-

Bluetooth dialup modem
Phone Number: *99#
User name: web
Password: web
Domain: Internet

In Advanced:

Baud Rate: 57600
Wait for dial tone: unchecked
Extra modem string: left blank
Cancel if not connected: 120 sec

Port Settings

Data Bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: Hardware

the 3 boxes below that are unchecked

TCP/IP

Server Assigned
use software compression & use IP header compression are CHECKED

Servers

Use server assigned.

My phone connects to vodafone live, and this works OK on the phone. Sorry for the rambling post, however has anyone managed to set this up succesfully?

Many thanks

Try leaving username, password and domain boxes blank

thanks for that - but no go :(

It asked immediately for a password - giving me the username "internet" - i put web in - and it didn't connect???

Tried blank - no go :(

Humph . . . .

The frustrating thing is, I know it will do it . . . .

Is the username "internet" and password "web" provided by your service provider? I'm thinking that these may come up because you have set them in connection manager. What I would try is either delete your current connection and start from scratch, but DON'T fill in the username, password and domain boxes when you set up the connection. Or else just try editing your connection and remove the username/password/domain.

With mine (Telstra, Australia), all I had to do was set up a partnership, then set up a connection with the access number and off it went. I have an iPAQ h4150 and a Sony Ericsson T68i

Good luck

Yup - username "web" and password "web" and number *99# are provided by the ISP - which is Vodafone UK.

:)

Still don't work though :(

If you want to PM your e-mail address to me I can send you a crib sheet (to big to post here) from Vodafone on how to set this up.

Along the lines of what I said previously, if it is giving you the username "Internet" when the dialog box pops up, it is likely that you have this set as the username in connection manager.

So I would try, like I said before, deleting current connection and creating a new one, and either (1) Put the details in correctly as provided by your service provider - i.e. is "internet" the domain name they gave you? (you didn't list it in your last post, only username and password). Or (2) Leave the boxes blank when you set up the connection, and enter them manually each time you connect.

If either of those don't work, one last thing you could try (but only if the domain name "internet" was actually provided by your service provider) is to enter the username as "web.internet" (i.e. "username.domain name") - try this both with the domain box empty, and with internet written in it. I doubt this will work, but it's worth a try as a last resort.

If that doesn't work, sorry, I can't help you further - perhaps someone actually in the UK using Vodafone can help?

Have you considered using the Vodafone Connect Me software which is available from their website? It is available for Windows and a version for Pocket PC platforms.

Try this link or visit www.vodafone.co.uk

YIPPEEEEE ! ! ! :D

Solved it I think -

I think it was a case of PEBKAC (Problem exists between Keyboard and Chair :))

Right - I missed this crucial step -

Quoted from the Vodafone site - For Sony Ericson phones

Click the blue joystick button to display the menu.
Use the joystick button to move through the menu and select Connect by pressing the joystick button (represented by two arrows).
Scroll down to Data comm. and press the joystick button to select.
Select Data accounts, followed by Add account?
Under Account Type, highlight GPRS data.
Enter Name for New account Name: Internet.
Enter the following information, then press Save:
APN: internet
User ID: web
Password: web

Upon checking, this then became CLE 4 in my phone.

So I set my iPAQ's Bluetooth dialup settings to dial

*99***4#

Username = web
Passord = web
Domain = left blank

Baud = 57600
Wait for dial tone - unchecked
No extra string modem commands

Port Settings:

8
none
2
Hardware

All boxes unchecked

TCP / IP

Server Assigned
Bottom two boxes checked

It surfs the web happily now via Bluetooth -

Won't check my e-mail yet - but I got that many "accounts" floating around now - and connection settings - I'm gonna have to delete some of them and ensure that my mail software is using the correct settings :D
