Finally got all my data and apps from my Palm III over to my iQue.

First night I left it out of the cradle. I guess it's possible that I left it on by accident but the next morning it was totally dead, lost all my data and 3rd party apps. Luckily, I had backed up to the SD card using BackupBuddyVFS Lite and was back in business.

Two observations. Yesterday about lunchtime the battery was already down to 66%. I was mostly using the adddress book and Datebk5. I did simulate driving 2 or 3 short routes showing off to my co-workers but the GPS was never on. Is this battery usage normal?

Second, I have the clicking noise when the unit is on. Don't think it's happening when the unit is off. Happens about every 15-20 seconds or so. I e-mailed Garmin. They said that they had never heard of that problem but gave me an RMA # and said I'd be without it for 10-14 days.

I guess I'm leaning towards sending it back since I've just started using it.

Should I send it back or is the clicking noise something I can live with? I've searched the forum and it seems like others are experiencing the same clicking noise.

Thanks.

Scott

can yo clarify more about the clicking sound...mine did that right after l got it back from RMA but stopped. is your sound off? even if it is, when i access/write to my sd card, it makes a click sound...is it reproduceable on command, or happens randomly?...since they offerd to RMA her, they may have had this problem before too... -Nate

The sound appears random.

All I have to do is just turn it on and wait.

I've also tried turning ALL the volumes OFF on the Volume page.

I also have the clicking noise that appears *usually* after selecting an icon on the screen or using a slider bar, with a delay of approx. 1 second. It does not occur spontaneously, though.
The sound is a soft click in the right audio channel (I checked this with headphones). The click can even be heard when turn off all audio volumes.

It did get on my nerves after a while. Since it has other problems too, such as the infamous screeching noise, I decided to send my unit to Garmin Europe. No reply yet. I will let you know whether they've done something about it.

Cheers,
HighFive

Yeah.. the clicking noise is very common, I have on my unit.. and it still does, I didn't RMA my unit as of yet though.. waiting for something else to happend before I send it in.. some people say when it's accessing the sd card it will make those clicking sounds..

Don't worry, you will hear the pretty famous screeching sound sooner or later too.. :D Unless you do a RMA those screeching sound will not go away.. as for clicking sound.. I am not sure if that's ever fixed by garmin yet.

btw, if you turn down the backlight to half or a little less than half, your battery will last a lot longer..
