I just experienced a lock up that MAY?? be a bug, but I would like some of you to tes this first before I jump the gun!! Using Palm OS FIND, I found and selected an item in the datebook (for this October, 2004). When I selected this entry with the stylus, my WHOLE screen went blank (actually, WHITE), except for a row of icons at the very bottom of the screen (e.g. the Graffitti area was not there, either). A soft reset corrected this. Going directly into the datebook this time, I looked up the this entry and notiecd that there was a note attached. When I got rid of the note and tried FIND again, my 3600 did not crash! However, if I put the note back in and tried FIND again, I observed the exact SAME lockup! Trying over and over again (and inserting spaces and other characters into the note), my 3600 kept freezing on this white screen as long as there was a note attached to this datebook entry. It therefore appears that the NOTE attached to this datebook entry caused the lockup! Can someone (or someoneS?) please try to recreate this scenario and get back to us here to see if this is just a problem with MY 3600 or if it truly is a software bug? I did and do not have the time to try to create any number of combinations, but I WILL tell you that the entries that crashed were for October2, 2004 OR October 4, 2004, with a NO TIME entry into the datebook and a note attached to each of these entries (the same entry was moved between the two dates for testing purposes, both with the same results). Thanks in advance. Be advised that there was no data lost as a result of this; I just needed to perform a soft reset and everything then worked as advertised!!

No: I am using the default Palm datebook, To Do, address, etc. apps.

Rich, my $2c worth. A couple of months back I had a problem where a corruption on my pc slaughtered some address book items that caused the Q to behave really weird. I exported all the items to a text file and then deleted all the items in the address book in the Palm desktop. I was able to synch ok bit of course with no data. When I reimported the text file, the Palm desktop raised some data corruption problems about the address entries. I deleted those from the text file and after another import and hotsync I was able to get the Q to work ok. I'd only lost about 5 addresses so recovery was easy.

Maybe you might look at doing the same perhaps.

This being such a minor irritation and everything working just fine since I deleted the Note, I do not want to open up any can of worms--if it ain't broke (NOW), don't fix it! I REALLY would like some ofyou folks to attempt to recreated the problem, though, again, to see if this truly is a BUG or just data corruption to which you have alluded. In this way, we might be able to determine if this an isolated (data corruption) or in fact a nasty BUG!!

I tried your sequence of steps and could not produce the error.

THANKS!! Hoever, I think that I have isolated it even further, and again would appreciate someone trying this. First, on your 3600, create a datebook entry for say, October 4, 2004. Then, make a note attached to this entry, BUT DO NOT USE ANY OF THE SAME WORDS YOU USED IN THE MAIN DATEBOOK ENTRY. Go to Palm OS FIND and search for one of the words in the main Datebook entry, and you should have not problem taping it and going to it (this is NOT where my problem occurred, I have since found!). Now, please go back to the FIND app and SEARCH FOR A UNIQUE WORD IN THE NOTE ATTACHED TO THIS SAME DATEBOOK ENTRY. When I do the latter, this is when I get the "white screen of death"! Can anyone NOW attempt to recreated this problem? Please........??!! If no one can make their 3600 freeze white following these instructions, the I give up, for if I search one of the words in the Datebook entry, find it, and THEN tap on the Note there is absolutely NO problem!! It only occurs if I search for a unique word in the Note and tap on this entry in FIND that my 3600 gives me the frozen white screen. As always, thanks in advance!!

Yep!

DateDB.c, Line: 2946, Error Querying record,

That definitely is a bug.

Datebook entry Oct 24: "nothing", in note "bottle corkscrew". Search "corkscrew" gave this error (but I used the swedish korkskruv).

Reset box appears. And I'm brought back to CardBackup restore screen. My logfile in garmin folder on card was probably not added to.

OK, so how then should this bug properly be reported?

VideoImpression,

Looks like you just did, assuming the folks at Garmin are looking over our shoulders.:)

Otherwise, try Garmin Support/Technical Support online reporting.

Don't bother. Being a beta tester, I have a way of putting it directly on the appropriate programmers desk. I will do so.

Tried it myself: Creates no problem with my release 3 beta version. Could be that it's fixed, since we've had a discussion about various Find errors before.

Thanks, Anders, I had hoped that you would intervene!

Check if you get different results, depending upon if you start QueFind from the little icon at the bottom row, or if you start it by tapping the QueFind icon in the Que category (assuming you haven't moved it elsewhere).

EXCELLENT question, Anders! Here is what I have discovered:

The "White Screen of Death" DOES occur with this sequence if I either tap the Find icon to get me to Palm OS Find (from tapping the 'house' icon on the bottom of the screen) OR if I make my way to Palm OS Find by pressing the QUE 'hard' button on the lower right portion of my iQue. However, if I start QueFind from the little icon at the bottom row, MY IQUE DOES NOT FREEZE UP AND I CAN VIEW THE NOTE!! How did you ever figure out that calling up the program two different ways might make a difference??!! Pure genius, I presume! Nevertheless, does this help to track down the bug??!!

Mine freezes when I look it up starting with the bottom row looking glass. Even if the find word doesn't include the last letters of the word I put in the note. Corkscre for corkscrew
