My IQue internal speaker has stopped working! Car kit speaker works fine, beeps, navigation, etc. But the internal speaker doesn't make a single peep. All of the volume controls are turned all the way up. I even tried a full hard reset, & still no noise. Not even a beep when remove/install the memory card.
Any suggestions before I call Garmin in the AM?
Thanks!

Have you checked for the voice files in the internal memmory? Those files 0001/0119.vpm. If they are not, then try to install from the CD setup.

If you push the Que button, you should hear that GPS reception is not active or something like that (dunno the english version).
If not and if all the volume controls are on max something is wrong indeed. Garmin next.

Funny, this just happened to my unit too. Nothing helped, but spoken commands, MP3 etc. works. Just not the Hotsync beep, the tap click and so.
After som testing I tried a reset. But then it broke down completely. Wouldn't come back on, only briefly displayed the Palm logo, then died again.
Next step I did was a hard reset, then syncing back everything again. Now it started and clicks when I tap. Possibly did this happen because I wanted to see if Aeroplayer integrates with the spoken commands as QueAudio does. It didn't, but kept on playing at the same time as Betty spoke. Garmin's MP3 player has the common sense to shut up when Betty speaks.
Not that I consider music worth listening to, but that's another thing.

That doesn't sound like the threads starters problem. His internal loudspeaker is dead. period. As I understood it.

No, maybe not. I read "doesn't make a single peep" and thought about the similarity to my situation. I probably was too self-centered. I'me reversing in under my old blanket again.

I just noticed a few days ago that my internal speaker is completely dead as well. No telling how long it has been that way since it has been forever since I have tried to get sound out of it outside of the auto nav kit. Haven't tried a hard reset yet, but I do suspect this is a hardware problem. Rats. I though I was going to be one of those lucky early adopters who avoided doing an RMA. I'm going to miss my iQue!

Very odd... had not yet gotten around to hard reseting my iQue to see if that fixes the speaker problem, when, for the first time in ages this morning, I get the dreaded screech while navigating in the auto nav kit. I figure no problem, I'll just pop it out of the kit and wait a minute before popping it back in since the internal speaker isn't working.
Suprisingly, as soon as I remove the iQue from the nav kit, the internal speaker takes over with the noise! The speaker fixed itself! Not so. As soon as the screech is over, no more sound from Betty or any other programs until I put it back in the nav kit.
So when I got to the office, I performed a backup to SD and a hard reset. Still no sound. Restored. No sound. All volume setting in the Prefs app are on high.
So it doesn't appear to be a hardware issue since I could hear the screech from the internal speaker. And it doesn't seems to be a problem with installed apps since a hard reset did not resolve. I did just finally get around to patching the firmware to release 2 a few weeks ago, but I cannot be sure the speaker was working before that. That does seems to be the most likely suspect, though.
I'll report if Garmin has anything specific to say about it.

Well my voice is gone completely.
somehow I must have purged them and deleted them.
Tried to re-install them via setup disk but says error can't access data1 cab files. I was thinking of using the change language to re-install the voice.
what should I do
Thanks for any help.
All the volume controls are set to max.
No navigation voice either with navigation kit.

Well, you have no voice at all. But other sound? system sound, alarms as well? Have you tried those other sounds?
If you have no sound at all, then no way to fix it, RMA.

To restate the problem:
1. Your iQue loudspeaker does not work anymore.
2.And you don't have any voice prompt files in RAM any more.
3 And you can't install from the CD because of cab1 error.
Is it all of these?

Clean your CD and try again. If it still doesn't work then get some car wax and wax your CD like you would your car. This will help if you have some minor scratches that are causing the issue.

Re th4e CD. it might be the CD-rom unit and not the CD itself.
Try this witch cure: Install via network, clicking "My network places". I have had to do it myself with Fugawi and Mapinstall on one computer. The reason seems to be that the CDROM is accessed differently.
Via network could be on your own or on a networked computer.
If this doesn't work there is thread on winannoynances about it somewhere that I could dig up if you need.

for some reason I picked up my IQUE 3600 and it lit up and said cleaning up or something like that.
can't remember for sure but I lost the voice again.
Tried to re-install via change voice and it said error-can't access data1 cab file.
I can plainly see it in windows explorer but when I try to click on set up it says I have to go through the desktop which then tells me it can't access the data1 cab files.
Anyone have this problem
This is twice that I have lost the voice and now I can't re-install it.

Windows installation procedure doesn't find the Cab1 file. Could be something wrong with the CD (as you know since before, the CD-Rom drive too slow for the PC you use (XP?) or something with windows security as mentioned before.
You could try to copy the whole CD to a virtual drive on the HD.
You could try to install via the network as I mentioned earlier because that seems to handle security issues and speed better.
Try to install on an old win98 machine and see if it takes the CD. Then you nknow the incompatibility is on a higher level.
This is the anser given to one XP user trying to install Easy CD creator: "Some people who have gotten this error have been able to copy the files from the CD to their hard disk, and then run the install from the hard disk OK.
Other folks have gotten it to work by turning off their virus scanning during the install. In their case, apparently, the virus scanner would try to scan the .cab file before letting the installer have it - this would result in a delay, and the installer would think the file was bad".
The best thing to do is to Google the error message or part of it.
Start within www.annoyances.org. If you have an error number it is much quicker.

Clean your CD really good since it worked one time after cleaning it. Then don’t use it but copy the entire CD to your hard drive in a folder. Try to install from there after you successfully copy the whole CD without errors. Either way you may want to send for a replacement CD.

already tried what you suggested and was ready to contact garmin.
Don't know how I got there but came upon an add-in screen which had several vpm. something files and I clicked on vpm.11 and it went to the other side which said it would install on the next hotsync.
tried it and it worked.
came up with that file because it would always come up on the error screen saying it could not install that file.
trying to figure out how I got to that screen and I think it was when I went to re-install from the disk. (not sure)-anyway I have the voice again. The toy effect is beginning to wear off but I am still crazy about this thing.
I leave it on all the time in the car.It always shows me where I am.
I don't care how far I drive or how many turns I take.Just click on home and it gives me the route home in seconds.
