grey circles on basemap

Could someone tell me what the grey circles with the squiggly line in the middle appearing on the basemap represent? I've never noticed it before until I had to reinstall my basemap last night.

They are the tide stations if i'm talking about the right things, for some reason ever since r2, or since the new basemaps, they are set as default.....

to turn them off:
goto home (apps)
goto prefs
goto que
goto maps>marine
goto maximum zoom
set tide stations to off

They can be seen on the screenshot I attached in this thread (http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34574).
But in that instance, it was intentional.
