When I remove my Compaq ipaq 3760 from the cradle it causes my PC to crash!

One of two things happens. The first is that I get the blue windows screen telling me that 'A fatal exception OE has occurred at 017F:BFF9DFFF the current application will be terminated'. I'm asked to press any key to terminate the current application or to press ctrl alt delete. The screen then freezes and the PC needs to be switched off. The variation on this is a message that an illegal action has been performed - again the screen freezes and the PC needs to be switched off.

I noticed that there has been a similar query and the response was that something was corrupting the memory (don't know whether this is the PC or iPaq) and it is most likely to be an antivirus program. The advice is to disable the antivirus program or if that doesn't work any other program that's resident on the taskbar.

I'm not happy with the idea of disabling the Norton Antivirus program. There must be an alternative solution as many people use iPaq's with antivirus software.

I notice that there are questions asked about activesync 3.5 (what I'm currently using) and 'XP professional'. I am also using office XP if that could be a problem?

Any answers???

I am running Windows XP Pro and Office XP on my host computer. I have not experienced any of the problems you describe.

What hardware are you using? Have you installed the lastest BIOS updates and operating system fix packs?

Its seems as though you may have a memory leak in your PC. THe best thing to do for now is to clean up the normal history files and delete the internet cache files.

The next step is to make sure all the "cookie" files are deleted.

After you have complete the clean up check and see if the problem remains.

In addition and depending on how much memoty you have, you may consider adding more.

Joel ---- Its not you IPAQ ...... its your PC/MicroSoft

are you running pocket pc 2002? The latest version of ActiveSync?

I also use XP Pro and Office XP on the host without such problems....

and I never disable my norton, though it's corporate edition, it still shouldn't make a difference....

I would certainly hit Windows Update and load all of the critical updates and service packs...

I would look for the culprit in something else running....
