Problem:
Often, after I Hotsynch, my handheld (T665C) gets stuck on the screen that says "Cleaning up - please wait". After 4 or 5 minutes of waiting, I then remove the handheld from the cradle, do a soft reset by poking through the small reset hole in the back of the unit, and hotsynch again. Usually, when I do this, the hotsynch works fine and the process finishes without a hitch.
Why is it hanging on the "Cleaning up - please wait" screen?
And how can I fix the problem?
Also, am I doing any damage if I regularly do a soft reset?
Thanks for your replies.

First off, you're doing no harm by soft resetting - it's just like doing a restart on your PC.
Now, as for your Hotsync difficulties: for me, any Hotsync troubles seem to come from the PC. That is, if I haven't restarted my PC after a long time of activity (being Windows 98, this usually means a few hours), my Clie will begin Hotsync but it won't continue the process - the Hotsync on my PC just doesn't fire up at all. Restarting my PC cures the problem.
Since your problem is taken care of with a soft reset on your Clie, I'm wondering if there are any background programs you have running that are messing things up. What happens if you soft reset your Clie BEFORE you Hotsync - that is, before you encounter the frozen "Cleaning up..." screen. Will it Hotsync smoothly then?

This problem is on your Palm.
When a HotSync finishes, a notification is sent to all applications to let each one do any "housekeeping" it needs to do after a HotSync.
Chances are one of the third-party applications you've installed recently is hanging when it gets this notification.
I'd try deleting your new apps in reverse order of when you installed them, and you should see the problem clear up when the "bad" application is gone.

Thanks for both your suggestions, DrMud & Nick... the problem seems to have gone away pretty much on it's own, but I did do a soft reset & I restarted my PC before doing the hotsynchs... that seems to have done the trick.
Now, most of the time, it hotsynchs without a hitch.
Appreciate your quick replies to my problem!

Did you ever consider how different our lives migh be if every time we hung up and became disfunctional God would just push the reset pin in a little hole in our back and we would be on course again?

Wouldn't that be wonderful! :)
