I ran into a problem with my old computer. After synching with Lotus Organizer, I attempted to go back to the Palm Desktop 4.01.
When I synched, I got a message that I had exceeded the record capacity of the desktop and during the process, many appointment records were deleted from my Palm Vx.
I went back to the Lotus program and recovered my data but I can't find any information about the number of records that the Palm Desktop will handle. Anybody have a clue about:
Number of calendar records.
Number of contacts.
Max. size of memos (characters).
Why this information is not published in the desktop help file or on the website?

It is my understanding that there is no limit on the numbner of records that desktop can hold.
Did the message you recieved actually say that you had exceeded the limit for the Palm Desk Top?
YOur experience is easier to expalin as a conflict generated by the reversion you attempted and the size of your PS's cache.
Give me a little more to go on.

I remember saying that I had exceeded the capacity of the desktop. However, I sent an email to Palm and they claim the desktop could hold over 5 years worth of appointments and 10000 names and addresses.
I might try again and see what happens.

Make copies of all the folder/files involved before you do try again. And if you have a program such as Norton Utilities on your PC I would run the "WIndows find and fix" application to clean up any trash or regisrty errors left when you reverted.
Best of luck!

Dan,
I did a bit more digging and found that there is a record limit for the Palm Desktop. I still think you were really not at the limit but that is another issue. THe limit is just a little over 10,000. Sad t o say it was a few days ago when I found it and the actual number has evaporated. I think that is how my brain cools itself.

That number jives with what Palm told me in an email.
For me the issue has become moot as I'm synching with my copy of Outlook. (The Desktop has too few features to be a serious PIM. For instance you can't even find a 'snooze' feature on the Desktop for your alarms. As I spend most of my time in front of the PC, that was a serious problem.)

I use Outlook for a variety of reason even though I think Plam hasd done a nice job with their new Desktop.
One reason for Outlook is that I retain all completed appointments and ToDos on the Palm and on Outlook.

I think Palm greatly improved the Desktop in version 4 but it just is not for people whose primary need is for a PC PIM with occasional reliance on the Palm when away from the office.
Oh well. We've both found the solutions that work for us.

This comes in a bit late, but I might just as well post it here, since I was trying to look for an answer to the same problem. At least a partial answer can be found in Palm knowledge library at

"Information on record limits of the Palm™ Desktop Address
There is a limit of 10376 number of records that can be synchronized to the Palm™ Desktop Address book application (for Windows), and a limit of 9866 records you can manually 'enter in' the Desktop. After 9866 you can no longer enter new records in the Palm Desktop, (but you can synchronize up to 10376!).
You can continue to enter new records in the handheld, but these records will not synchronize to the Desktop.
Once the limit (10376) is reached File Link will stop synchronizing additional records to the handheld. "
