Hi kids.

I've just about, after 3 weeks and some self induced heartache, got the T3 where I want it. We can all get some sleep (hee hee).

I downloaded a freeware app called Stability test 1.2 from the same people that make FlyZip. Installed it, I passed most of the tests, then crashed. It says if you crash, you didn't pass (!!).
Alert the media.

I unhooked TealLaunch, TealScript, ClipPro and WordComplete. Then I ran the test again and briefly got "Hey! you passed! -- then it crashed again.

I have not had a single crash other than this tester since my "non-state" freeze up (and I know what that was!).
MY QUESTION IS:

How much faith do you put in a 10k freeware app tester, when it could be the tester that's glitchy? I've hooked everything back up and it's working fine -- I suspect there's something "unstable" about the stability tester.

Do any of you do that kind of thing? Is there a reliable tester? I used pBench (Palm Benchmark) and ran tests last week after a ROM download, and all checked out great. I'm just wondering if any of you would "trust" the tester, if you're not having problems otherwise.

Thanks/

It works fine and says "You passed' on all my devices, whether OS4 or OS5.

Good. Well at least we know the tester is probably ok. I do run TealLaunch under TealMaster, TealScript, AK Util DA, Wordcomplete, ClipPro -- all little "tweakers" in their own way.

Perhaps it doesn't like one of those or "Always On," or something else. All I know is I haven't had a fatal in a while; there was the invevitable "Oh, I guess this isn't OS5 compatible" in the beginning but I've taken great pains to auditio and pre-check about 70 apps in the last year in anticipation of losing my OS4 "hacks" and what-not.

Glad to hear yours passes; mine was glitchy but then again that was only during a test which "pushes the envelope" on purpose to check the system limits. Under normal condition I doubt I will be -- so I guess I'm fine.

Thank you, Sir, for getting back to me.

I tried it on T|T and it went thru the test, told me that the Palm was 'stable' and promptly crashed itself!!

Anyone else had this problem...I just deleted it straight away..no soft resets since!!

May be because I have Sony devices and no hacks.

Or maybe its just not T3 compatible:(

If it crashes on sos's TT, and it crashes on my T3, and tells both of us "all is fine," there's definitely something wrong . . . . with that app.

I don't know what Sos runs in terms of applications, hacks, DAs, et cetera - but no two Palms are the same because no two users are the same. The fact we both had problems leads me back to my original question . . . is there a tester that just "tests?"

I used pBench ("PalmBench") from German and it passed with flying colors. I'm testing only because of the "ROM deal" (see previous posts) but I think all is fine.

Cetain hacks, especially TealLaunch, run just fine under TealMaster, which has OS5 "emulation" (simply gets around the "system calls" in a clever way).

Thank you both for your input. I don't personally have "several devices;" I dumped the 505 and went to the T3 because I couldn't imagine having all my "stuff" on 4-5 handhelds and keeping it all straight. What I want is dependability on the unit I'm using until the next unit replaces it. Hacks, by the way, ROCK and I'm only sorry I can't use more of them under OS5. They doubled productivity and speed and ease of use. Too bad, but worth the sacrifice for the T3 display, speed, look and feel. Simply an amazing unit. I have three firends with Clies who ALL had to send them in for servicing due to a complete system failure on HotSync. Palm for me, thanks!!

Agree completely with Paul, hacks are great! Also, how do we test the tester???
